  1. I just dont know what to do, I have until the 8th to, clear out of the apartment and I'm nowhere near able to do that, then I'll have another storage payment due on the 15th, I have no one here willing to help me with anything... I'm just so sick and tired of being sick and tired and stressed and hungry when the thought of food makes me nauseous, and then coming here and ruining everyone's good moods... I just want to go home.

    1. @colfax you've got our sympathy. Have you tried a different town for work yet? That would pay your storage.

      1. @pony So far I've tried about six different towns.

        1. @colfax are fast food places really so not-in-need of workers?

          1. @pony Yeah, they are.

          2. @pony But I have been working in this town for YEARS after coming back as basically a G.I. Leftenant. I have been working for 6 ( six ! ) different bosses with 0-hour based contracts. The biggest of those 2 "jobs" being "Picking up slack at a restaurant for people who need help" ( < think about veterans and such ). The other one picking up slack at a kitchen that needs to prepare food for 120 people ( 2 different meals ) on a daily basis. And the third one being at a garage that has HUGE jobs from time to time. Last time I was being send in a truck caravaan to the Ukraine ( And yes those trucks did break down on 5 occasions )... I could NOT get a job in the fast food industry even if I paid THEM. ( Not to mention that fast food joints pay less... On the other hand, those jobs are infinitely amount more stable ) http://ur1.ca/fy3dx

            1. @critialcloudkicker @colfax that suuucks! hmm.. Maybe the homeless shelter folks can give some tips. I suppose knocking door to door where soliciting is allowed offering to do odd jobs would be my personal close-to-last resort. Also, begging at stores or on the streets for work, not even just money, you know?

              1. @pony Well, I do have a banking account with enough money on it to last a 5 month drought (meaning, with no income at all) before I go into the reds. And right now I am having six open, and three frequent 0-hour based contracts that give me a lot of income, The sad news is that I have no way to predict when they'll need me since it is on a "when we need you, we'll call you" basis. And this happens about 4 times per week. The median is that they need me for about 7 hours, so I guess technically I have about 36 hour workweeks. However there are weeks when I am needed over 80 hours in a week, and there are weeks where I am not needed at all... Soo... I would prefer a little bit stability, but money (right now) is not really a concern. However I am sure that this "get out of bed because a security firm is calling me at 03:00 in the middle of the night, only to go home at 09:00 and being called by the kitchen that someone fell sick and if I want to do their shift" is NOT good for my health

              2. @pony I stopped someone once just to ask where the library was and had a cop roll up on me wanting to know if I was panhandling... that's not going to work here, they dont want us here but then refuse to do much that will help us, nice piece of hypocrisy there.

Sunday, 27-Oct-13 12:49:56 UTC from web
                1. @colfax panhandling is a protected right I think as long as you do it like on the side of a road.. You want me to look it up for you?

                  1. @pony No. And I don't really feel like sitting here talking about how much I fail at simple things like finding a job or life in general...

                    2. @colfax My point isn;t to force you to dwell on it, but to help you face it. You might have to do this if you can't find work any other way.

                        1. @colfax Keep at the hunt I guess. Make it your total focus and maybe you'll get lucky. How much does storage cost per month?

Sunday, 27-Oct-13 13:15:31 UTC from web
                          1. @pony Storage is $65 a month due on the 15th of the month.

                            1. @colfax When it comes time to transport everything, how realistic would it be if you just got it all out within the allotted time, set it in an alley or next to the apartment building or something out in the open, but as safe as possible given the circumstances, and, staring with the most valuable stuff first, carried it to the bus stop and storage load by load? Or maybe the storage is in walking distance maybe.

                              1. @pony I'll have an hour to get my stuff out and be 1000 feet away from the place, which means I need to get it all into a van or something all in one go, storage is about half a mile away from the apartment.

Sunday, 27-Oct-13 13:38:08 UTC from web
                                1. @colfax I can almost guarantee you a phone number of a guy who I've never met that I know will give you transportation to help move your stuff. #

                                2. @colfax "What strings are there attached to this?" he's asking himself.. Well, it would take me a week maybe to set it up and get in contact with the people necessary, and they may or may not hit on you religiously... It's unlikely they would I think honestly.

                              2. @colfax Also, you could probably get help from your local mormon or other dogooder. You have untapped resources there I think, though they'd be strangers. Depends on how willing you are to rely on strangers.

                3. @colfax Out in the roadway, interfering with traffic, or at the point at which the way that they're asking for money breaks some other law, so they're threatening people, getting into the range of robbery, or they become physical with somebody," said Lt. Scott Fellman with the Eugene Police Department.

                5. @colfax It's a violation of free speech to prohibit panhandling apparently. Of course they can give you a hard time for it, but I wouldn't let that stop me.. then again, I have a wife to take care of.
