@nerthos Jesus gave up himself to be sacrificed....willingly. The Bible does say that God did choose to spare us all and vent his wrath on Jesus. And so Jesus, being both 100% God (in spirit) and 100% man (in body) was condemned with all sin. And so, since the punishment for sin is death, he died. But death couldn't keep him down, so he rose again, having triumphed over Hell, Satan, death and Hades.
