  1. @tiffany Ross O'Donovan of RubberNinja and Steam Train fame explains it waaayyyy better than I could, but basically the algorithm used to be based on total views. Every YouTuber with ad rev enabled gets something called "CPM". I'm not sure what it means anymore, but what it USED to be was that the value displayed as your CPM would be the amount of money you'd get per thousand views. For example, under the old system, I'd have made about $500 on MLB 2. Now, the ad rev system is based on minutes watched rather than total views, which is great for Let's Players who can churn out 30 minute videos daily, but not so great for everyone else, especially animators, who spend months on a like five-minute video. In addition, your CPM is better the more often you upload, so that puts Let's Players at an even GREATER advantage and everyone else at an even greater disadvantage. Ross explains it in much greater detail. http://rainbowdash.net/url/771945
