> China? Are we talking about the country w/ more billionaires than the US? The country that's outlawed unionization efforts?
@ferretsyndicate @ani The US is the most free and democratic country in the world and China is the most socialist/communist. The brochure won't lie. -

After spending so long on SPC the 1000 character limit seems so small. I used to see it as quite big.
Nowadays I'm used to writing >2k character posts quite often. Then again I did use to write 3-part posts here with relative regularity back in the day.
Kinda miss those times honestly.Sunday, 10-Feb-19 23:03:00 UTC from web -
I kinda wish there was an English news source from/about Brazil. There seems to be a LOT going on there which is cause for some ruckus with some of my Brazillian co-workers. Even though what is happening is like half a planet away and 'it' probably does not change anything if you are angry about it.
That said I'd kinda like to know more in-detail stuff.Saturday, 09-Feb-19 18:50:05 UTC from web- Jonathan Chouinard likes this.

@drinkingpony Learn Spanish, and then drink until it turns into Portugese?
-
@scribus It worked when trying to learn German to a moderate degree.
"Ich saufe darum bin ich" But you need to be carefull lest you get to the "Saufen bis zum Verlust der Muttersprache" stage too quickly.

@scribus @drinkingpony If you have a very good grasp of Spanish you can read Portuguese just fine, that's how I used to keep up with Mushi's faceplace posts and stuff he linked.
You absolutely won't be able to understand spoken Portuguese though, specially from Brazil.
Do ask mush mush about it if interested, he might have some sites detailing what's going on, and I'm not against roughly translating from Portuguese to English if needed.

@bjoern I've got the opposite result: Linphone on Android is buggy and resource-hungry, but fine on GNU/Linux.

@ilovecomputers I wanted to make a cultural appropriation joke, but these get out of hand very quick…
I'll do this one instead: in Soviet Russia culture appropriates YOU. -
@devurandom What do you mean? C++ already treats implicit re-casting from one pointer type to another as an error, (void *) or otherwise.
And C compilers (GCC and Clang) then generate warnings in exactly that way. -
@jordila This seems to be a running theme on the fediverse ;-).

@quad Consider microG without registering it in Google. It can do that.

@jalcine Indeed, that means that QtWebEngine-based can (and are) be less resource-hungry than Chromium customs like Vivaldi or Opera are.
But in terms of web compatibility it's the same web engine. -
@alcinnz If I remember it correctly, the reasoning behind Blink was that Chromium does its own thing with multiprocessing, but WebKit2 was going to make it significantly harder to patch that in.
-
@jalcine But Falkon is QtWebEngine-based, which in turn is Chromium-based.
So if you support one, you automatically support another.
GNOME Web and Epiphany are one and the same.
And @alcinnz is making a browser called Odysseus, based on WebKitGtk, so there's that :-). -
> Is this connected?
@laurelrusswurm So it would seem :-). -
@gardenofforkingpaths So many people use Atom/RSS when clearly no one uses it, such foolish behaviour…
"Ugh, why won't everyone get the gist that no one uses Atom/RSS anymore and stop requesting support for it?" -

@kaniini Well, it didn't broke right away, only when I've forced re-subscription of every subscription I've started noticing that instead of getting more notices I've oddly started getting less.
After a few days I was finally confident enough to bring that up.
If not for that, it could've been taken even more time for someone to notice something's not right.
Lucky me %). -
On the other hand I'm all in for letting ethnic supremacist groups have at it and eventually wipe eachother off the planet. They'll gladly do it without any outside intervention if they're placed all in the same location.

@nerthos What he literally said was “When did white supremacy become offensive?” It’s not a matter of people misinterpreting something innocuous. He literally used the word “supremacy”. He also has ties to an Austrian far-right group which openly affiliates with the Nazi Party. There’s literally no other way to interpret what he said.
-
@mrmattimation Well, sure, but if you just disregard All Of That Inconvenient Stuff, there's never anything wrong with anything! Yay, zero accountability! It's the New American Way.

@mrmattimation In that case the answer would likely be "sometime after '45"

Time to be honest with myself (and others) - a lot of the reason Ive not yet switched to ejabberd is because I know I cant easilymigrate the data and some small part of me holds onto the hope Katie might reach out to me. It sonds pathetic as all get out when I say it that way, but its the truth.
-
@maiyannah What data do you want to keep that won't be migrated with "ejabberdctl import_prosody"?
-
@xrevan86 My understanding is that only works if you used the default prosody storage, I used the mysql one.
-
@maiyannah I'm focusing on the technical side here, yeah. The ejabberd's migrator doesn't transfer all the possible data, but it does preserve rosters and keeps the federation intact.
So, no need to sacrifice connections over that.
Or, alternatively, you could ask @zash about the issues you have with Prosody. It's a community, after all ;-).
With the social part I can only wish well for the both of you, no pieces of advice there…
