Go figure. I think there could be something said for having a vote on what the package itself should be, but # means brexit. Regardless of what the package looks like, we're leaving the EU, basically.

Pretty much. I'm not sure what these guys don't get. This vote was as democratic as you can get. The people all voted, and majority that voted decided to leave the EU. End of. Also, the irony is that the pro-remain side lied about a lot of things in their campaign, and it was probably their undoing. #

  6. British PM to trigger #Brexit without vote by lawmakers | Reuters

British Prime Minister Theresa May will not hold a parliamentary vote on Brexit before formally triggering Britain's withdrawal from the European Union, The Daily Telegraph reported on Saturday, without specifying sources.

May will not offer opponents the chance to stall the withdrawal and has consulted lawyers who say she has the power to invoke the exit without a parliamentary vote, the conservative newspaper said. A majority of the 650 lawmakers had declared themselves "Remainers".

Opponents maintain that since the EU referendum result is not legally binding, elected lawmakers should review the vote before the process is started.

Sounds logical. I mean, the biggest decision the UK could probably make, pushed through by a popular vote which was basically almost 50/50, and the Leave campaign basically won because young people couldn't be arsed to vote?

And the elected government will not even be consulted? How much more fail can you have?

  20. The # referendum was democracy in action, whether you like it or not.

The only part that failed is the campaigns, how nobody seemed to want to discuss the debate points behind this. They just want to play on emotions like normal elections. Especially the remain camp. I saw their posters.

I guess the remain Tory's assumed that what they usually claim will work this time around. "For a strong economy, vote for us!" Same old, same old. At least the leave leaflet told you to vote either way, and make up your own mind about the points they put down.

So yeah. The problem is that they lost sight about what is important, and played on fear. But I guess it worked for them, there really are gullible people who think remaining will give them a stronger economy, and leave people who think leaving means no more immigration.

I'm over here like... lol. I just don't want more government, legislation and authoritarians you can't even pick thanks to it being a commission. We will still get legislation, but at least that is one bureaucracy out of the picture. Assuming the politicians don't simply cave in like idiots, and get us into the same deals and mess as we are in now.
