  1. I'm low-key considering buying a car seat instead of a new office chair. I rather build a platform for the car seat than waste yet again over 200 bucks for a sub-par "ergonomic" office chair with worse butt comfort. I just looked-up car seats in my local listings and a whole set of two front seats and the backseat row can be bought for 100.

  4. @citrusrain I also got it by accident by browsing on Disney+ here in Germany (it's in their *STAR* tab that contains mostly more international and mature content).

  5. The latest Futurama season is... very meh. It's not downright bad but meh. The first episode was about blockchain and NFT. It feels more dated than any 90s Simpson episode (combined). The last one with the temp worker on the other hand was weirdly malicious and worked against the spirit of Futurama. Other than that not a bad episode when seen in a vacuum.

  7. @scribus I just tried it. It failed to compute the integral of f(x)=x^3+(1/3)*x^2-(1/5)*x+3 between -420 and 69. Wolfram Alpha and Perplexity had the same and correct stem function but they differ hugely in the computed value.

  8. Last week I bought refillable water bottles in order to reduce purchasing bottled (mineral) water. It's alright, though I kinda miss the bubbles and sparkliness. The price for the cheap mineral water is 10 times higher than tab water.

  9. After much deliberation I'm not going to consider taking over RDN, as much I would like to continue this site. I am already strained beyond my capacity. I would do myself a great disservice putting one more thing on a pile I already don't have under control.

  10. I thought I was over it but my desire to own a Bun-Chan plushie hasn't subsided. I got every Bun-Chan in all of the games, I don't want to stop IRL.

  11. Watched "Eric" on Netflix. Was decent but twice as long as it needed. It's very vibe-y with a loooot of "texture" that depict the era of the 80's. I strongly think that some plotlines could be cut entirely or heavily edited to get a tighter story. The series has 6 episodes, which feels like a stretched out movie.

  13. Weird and strange behaviour from my phone. I dropped it (about 1m) and then it struggled with anything, like just displaying the lock screen. It took at least 10 seconds after pressing the button. Also the SD card wasn't found anymore. After rebooting I did the thing that actually fixed it: I re-inserted the SIM and SD card.

  15. @scribus I'll invent my own measuring standard and my own temperature standard and my own money in order to make any other standard obsolete and make everyone struggle the same way.
I'll also change the calendar to make every month 30 days long with an extra super short bonus 5-6-day long month at the end of the year for the Christmas holidays and the occasionally leap year day.
The clock should also be divided into 10 hours (144 current minutes long) and 100 minutes (86.4 current seconds long).

  18. Humble Bundle has currently an Adventure Time comics bundle. All mainline comics (75 issues, excluding "Season 11") are available for about 17 bucks. It's definitely worth a read for any AT fan. It's the grand debut of the author Ryan North who is generally quite funny in his writing and his trademark comments at the bottom of the pages.

  19. Got myself a nice dark brown leather jacket at the flea market for 15€. Cannot complain for that price and basically pristine condition. That would be probably 5 times new in store. It has a high collar with an integrated scarf and it has a removable insert for extra warmth during Winter. I'm not a fan of the collar but it's not that bad not to wear. I have leather jackets for warmer weather already, so I can slowly retire my really old black felt Winter coat.

  22. It rained so much I bought two more rain barrels, making up to 3 barrels (100 liters each). After I filled all of them I still had over 80 liters in buckets. I kinda wanted to buy another one but I think it was a good choice because I already emptied all of that with watering my tomatoes and my grassy lawn.
I hope the bald spots grow grass soon. I treated those spots well enough, I hope.

My enemy is a gang of sparrows. I threw so much grass seeds that the sparrows took that as invitation to eat it all up. Over the past weeks this gang grew in size. It started with 3 and literally yesterday I saw over 20 on my small lawn.

  23. Farewell to the brave tomato fruits that died in the line of duty as I had to cut off the branches they were growing on. They will never develop to be full grown and delicious and be devoured raw or cooked in a tasty meal.
A few of my tomato plants developed brown spots and had a ton of leaves turn yellow. I suspect they caught a fungus after the heavy rains in the last few days. Only a few small pea-sized fruits were involved and a dozen or so blossoms.
My plants are near bushes and close to the house so I didn't bother much covering them from long and heavy rains but this time is hopefully the only time such a thing happens.

  26. @scribus I've seen both. The Holiday Special is objectively atrocious. It's a boring train wreck in a bizarre way only that time period could produce with the ferocity of a coked-up Carrie Fischer. Acolyte has problems and tends to sets more things up than to resolve and the resolution feels lacking. Nothing insultingly bad but just... wishing for more.

  27. I bought a micro controller 6 years ago and hadn't a need for it yet, until now. It shocked me that the price doubled since then. It's an Atmega32u4 that has a male USB connector, also known as a Atmega32u4 Beetle, or BadUSB on some sites. I used the micro controller to emulate a mouse that wiggles the cursor periodically in order to prevent the locking of the screen when idle. The laptop from the client has locked down pretty much everything that could be otherwise be a workaround in software.
It took me several attempts to make it work, because I was too optimistic with my gentle cursor wiggling. Windows' threshold is quite generous for its idle detection. At first I wiggled a pixel back and forth once every 5 minutes and it developed to twice a minute and twice a small figure 8 in a 3x3 pixel window. I think it is done to filter out some crappy mouse sensors that are very noisy. In practice it's not that distracting and the wiggling imperceptible when the mouse is actually used.

  28. Every time it rains I put some buckets outside to collect rain water that I put into a rain water barrel. Just from today's rain I collected almost 100l (26 US liquid gallons).

  29. I've also done a little bit of gardening. My lawn is more dead moss than grass. Even after the last time (about two weeks ago) I removed even more moss that became more obvious because the grass isn't growing as well as it should. I like moss but that is either brown as mud or green as grass. In either state it's not very noticible if there is a lawn improvement or not.
If I knew how annoying it would turn out I had stripped down to the top layer of the soil, added a new layer of very fertile soil on top and planted the grass seed on top. Would have been more effective in every way.

  30. @scribus Today's tomato count is 105. Spaghetti sauce will be guaranteed a thing I have to make. This week I bought a giant glass of pickles so I have a jar for all of that.
