@northernnarwhal My Xbox came bundled with AC:Unity and Black Flag. Black Flag is a great game, but I played Unity and instantly felt like that game devalued my console.

They "counter" the apodictic contentions of the scientific community on this question with crass anti-intellectualism. Physical "discipline" of children in the US is most popular in the Southern states, and these states have the highest rates of teenage pregnancy, juvenile delinquency, etc. Furthermore, dozens of countries have made it illegal for parents to smack their children, and they haven't erupted into "anarchy" as a result (Sweden, Norway, Germany, Finland, Israel, Spain, Portugal, Denmark, etc.).

On my way home I overheard two old guys talking about how according to them there are problems in modern society because parents are no longer allowed to beat their children to discipline them. I'd want to punch them in the face, but unlike them I'm above barbaric physical violence.

So I saw The Martian earlier- it's really great! The directing was really dynamic, the cinematography was gorgeous, the sound design was really clever, the script was equal parts smart and playful, and for as much as people like to disparage Matt Damon he actually played a really charismatic lead! So overall I really liked it, it's a really well put together film all about human perseverance and survival.
