@the20percent As a general rule "Don't do what Cerulean said" is pretty sound advice.

@ceruleanspark general rule... if you take out the CMOS battery, the the bios resets to factory... if the bios resets to factory, and we don't know the settings in the bios right now, and we don't know the password to resecure the bios, then we'll be found out... that's not what we want...

@the20percent @macpony55 The only way you're bypassing those restrictions w/o resetting the BIOS (or guessing the BIOS password) is by getting another internal hard disk and preconfiguring it for the hardware you have, then swapping it when you want to boot into it.

@ceruleanspark Tor? Detectable. Ultrasurf? Detectable. I even reset my winsock last year, and got busted. Hay, I have a friend who read the manual to barracuda, but all of those bypasses in the manual are detectable... 150 people got busted for this kind of stuff in 2 weeks alone last year... Those techies taking our ponies were naive at first, but because there were students that got caught, they learned over time how to block and detect bypasses

@the20percent That's because the Baracuda is sitting there at the junction between you and the internet. Even if you successfully boot into another OS, You'll still need to traverse the Baracuda appliance to get to the internet, so you won't actually be getting anywhere

@ceruleanspark there's another issue... the school's wifi is protected under an AES256 certificate. Another friend of mine managed to obtain a certificate, but failed to do anything with it... another person I know actually got that certificate and did something with it... successfully, but he was using windows 7, against my preference to OpenSUSE or Ubuntu or Mint. and if you boot into another OS, you aren't restricted by Barracuda, as its installed in windows. The only way you're restricted is if you install another OS in a virtual machine

@eaglehooves @the20percent Ubuntu works well because they can't track it since all their software is on Windows, but that is like a capital offense if they catch you
