@minti I think running alsaconf might get it detected?

@ponydude It stops the "alsasound" service and then starts it again, so it does more than just reloading modules.

@ponydude Fixed. Thank you.
Sunday, 08-Apr-12 03:39:38 UTC from web -
@ponydude No problem, Gentoo is hardly for everyone and I'm used to getting that sort of thing by now anyway.

@ponydude You have my eternal gratitute, as I know solving problems slowly like that is annoying as hell. XD
Sunday, 08-Apr-12 03:40:43 UTC from web -
@ponydude Haha, but still. ^_^

@ponydude Pfft. Screw formalities! *goes back to kissing your feet* XDD

@ponydude @minti *ahem* Sorry, I'm just gratful that my sound actually works now. I can't be productive at all with a lack of music. >_<
Sunday, 08-Apr-12 03:49:04 UTC from web -
@ponydude Banshee is the default one on here. :p I mainly just use YouTube though. I'm lame like that.
Sunday, 08-Apr-12 03:52:07 UTC from web -
@ponydude You mean there's music that _isn't_ pony remixes gotten off of Youtube?
Sunday, 08-Apr-12 03:52:29 UTC from StatusNet Android -
@ponydude My headset is a piece of crap. I can't tell. xD
Sunday, 08-Apr-12 03:53:10 UTC from web -
@ponydude So do I. I was commenting on the music store thing.
Sunday, 08-Apr-12 03:55:44 UTC from StatusNet Android -
@ponydude But it's FREE! (jk, I still pay for good stuff)
Sunday, 08-Apr-12 03:56:06 UTC from web -
@ponydude High quality mode go! But seriously, I guess your right. xD

@ponydude Mine is, like, ponies and Sonic soundtracks, with a bit of Phoenix Wright thrown in for no good reason.
Sunday, 08-Apr-12 03:58:22 UTC from StatusNet Android -
@ponydude I download the highest quality video data from youtube then use ffmpeg to separate the audio and convert it to FLAC. The sound quality is pretty good doing that, and I have Sennheiser HD headphones.
Sunday, 08-Apr-12 03:59:44 UTC from web -
@ponydude And I bought the physical CDs of my Sonic music. #livinginthe90s

@ponydude It's always mp3 though, I want me some flac!
Sunday, 08-Apr-12 04:01:34 UTC from web-
@toksyuryel You need a sound system where that actually matters first.
Sunday, 08-Apr-12 04:02:52 UTC from web-
@eaglehooves Did you miss where I said I have Sennheiser HD headphones?
Sunday, 08-Apr-12 04:05:18 UTC from web-
@toksyuryel Yes. I've got Insignia desktop speakers, and while they're not bad, .mp3 320 vs FLAC you can't tell a bucking thing.
Sunday, 08-Apr-12 04:06:29 UTC from web-
@eaglehooves I can tell the difference pretty well, unfortunately.

@ponydude My understanding is that youtube only downscales at lower quality settings. Using max quality shouldn't be a problem?
Sunday, 08-Apr-12 04:05:03 UTC from web -
@ponydude The video data isn't mp3 o.O it is either mp4 or webm, depending on which you prefer to download.
Sunday, 08-Apr-12 04:07:43 UTC from web-
@toksyuryel Even so, that's two lossy codecs applied to the audio, rather than just one.

@ponydude At least it's not as bad as this post I saw where a guy downloaded 64 kbps .mp3s and upgraded them to 128, swearing against all reason that it improved the quality.
Sunday, 08-Apr-12 04:07:49 UTC from web -
@ponydude And my point is that I don't believe the original was lossy. The mp3 in the description is, but I don't think they used the mp3 when they made the video. They just aren't sharing it for whatever reason.
Sunday, 08-Apr-12 04:09:13 UTC from web-
@toksyuryel I'm 90% sure they did. I wouldn't render a file twice just to put it on YouTube if it was me.

@ponydude They're a store brand laptop accessory. The cheapest 20W system money can buy, hooked to integrated sound. FLAC isn't the issue.
Sunday, 08-Apr-12 04:09:48 UTC from web -
@ponydude I also have my suspicions that artists put lower-quality versions in the description of whatever audio they used in the video itself.
Sunday, 08-Apr-12 04:12:15 UTC from web-
@toksyuryel Not any of the ones I've seen. They've all been high quality MP3's. Normally I upload 320kbps 44.1Khz MP3s. >.>
Sunday, 08-Apr-12 04:18:31 UTC from web-
@forestrain Testing with Luna (ALT MODE), I cannot honestly detect any different at all between the video version and the mp3 version. They sound identical.
Sunday, 08-Apr-12 04:27:44 UTC from web-
@toksyuryel That would be the point! ;p
