  1. # okie so according to le research, short stories are 7500-17500, whereas average novel length is typically anywhere between 60,000-100,000, numbers much smaller than I thought. Anyhoo, 60,000 words is a lot of writing! Can anyone even endure reading about ponies for that long? I mean, wouldn't there be a breaking point in which the reader claims, "the words are just too sweet and colorful; I must now kill a goat to balance out the excess magic and friendship?"

                            1. @scribble I have a nagging suspicion @redenchilada's problem might be that horseporn is being seriously discussed on a site associated with RDN (or indeed RDN itself) _at all_.

IT'S A WIN WIN SITUATION.

                                        3. @scribble Well, more precisely, about status.net. The whole design is, people post things, it all goes into a) the public timeline, and b) their subscribers' home timelines (plus private user->user messaging stuff). No part of that allows for a little closed-off section without pretty much replacing the whole thing, unfortunately.

                                    2. @scribble Why can't you guys just accept that we're not going to have horseporn discussion on the site in any substantial capacity? There are way too many alternatives for this.

                                        1. @scribble Surely this stuff is best talked about in private though? I know you feel comfortable here...but you could go into more detail too in private <3 I like this stuff too as you know <3

Saturday, 14-Apr-12 17:57:37 UTC from web
                                        2. @scribble The fact that you "feel comfortable using" a site does not take precedence over the fact that the site is intended to be viewable by young kids, and as such, discussion of pornography is simply discouraged.

Saturday, 14-Apr-12 17:58:31 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
                                          1. @redenchilada Hence why I try and keep it as under-wraps as possible, without seeming vague. Impossible, it seems.

                                            1. @scribble You've been a kid before, right? If a kid hears something like "Megasweet did something interesting with an adult Applebloom", odds are that they'll google it to pique their curiosity. While I'm starting to go into the realm of "parents should watch what their children do" at this point, I'd still rather have a place where it's possible for the average 13-year-old who doesn't understand the internet yet can hang out without a chance of producing mental scars. (Oh geez, I'm rambling now...)

    5. @widget Oh, good point. I completely forgot those when I was explaining to @scribble why Status.net wouldn't support such an idea. All along, I should have qualified it as SN 0.9.x, given that private groups in 1.0 absolutely do support that exact approach, and would actually be a pretty neat win-win solution once RDN upgrades to 1.0.x

        1. @scribus Still sounds to me like a better solution than outright exclusion, as long as there is at least some policing of the publicly-visible metadata of such groups.
