  1. Designing my own Foobar2000 UI, you see @Scribble this app is fun when you give it time :3c

    1. @cavatina I do like it, I just can't be bothered to set it keep on adjusting it. xD

      1. @scribble as i've offered before, i'd gladly do it X3

        1. @cavatina If you'd like. :3

    2. @cavatina Seeing what you're doing, I have a feeling you should give Arch Linux or even Gentoo a try, even when it's just in a Virtual Machine for fun

      1. @omni Heh, why do you suggest this? :)

Tuesday, 01-May-12 15:20:22 UTC from web
        1. @cavatina Because you're designing a GUI from scratch and Arch Linux and Gentoo are systems you build pretty much from scratch just as you want (though I wouldn't recommend Gentoo, as it's really hard, but Arch Linux is pretty doable if you read the Beginner's Guide). Of course it's not the same, but it's both "building to your liking" in a geeky way.

          1. @omni Ah right :3 I might have to do that ^.^

            1. @cavatina You said you liked minimalistic, right? Should try i3 or awesome as Window Manager, or, if you like it EXTREMELY minimalistic, you can go without any graphical environment. I believe ncursed software allows that, though not sure. /archlinuxlove

              1. @omni Hehehe, that sounds kinda scary for me XD

                1. @cavatina There is still the "complete-and-bloated" KDE box which comes with everything from a browser to a KTeaTimer :P

          2. @omni I find the difficulty of Gentoo to be vastly overstated. It's really only as hard as you choose to make it.

            1. @toksyuryel @omni I love Gentoo. Messing around with it taught me basically everything I know about *nix. =D

              1. @sleekrush I quite love it too ☺ been using it for a few years now, and it's pretty hard for me to imagine myself using a different distro in the future unless the developers suddenly abandon it.

              2. @sleekrush Are you still running it or are you using something else now?

            2. @toksyuryel Huh, I never got through the installation manual. Guess I just need to grab more time for it once

              1. @omni Time is really the major factor in getting started, especially when it comes to configuring the kernel. You can always opt to let it compile a generic kernel for you instead though- like I said, it's only as hard as you choose to make it.

                1. @toksyuryel A custom kernel? That sounds like so much fun! o,o

                  1. @omni It's pretty great once you get it figured out. But the first time you do it it can take days, even a week- not because it's hard, but because if you're anything like me you'll want to read the help on *EVERYTHING*.

                    1. @toksyuryel Well, weeks it is :P

              2. @omni I can also give you some tips I've picked up over several reinstalls that make the install process smoother.

                1. @toksyuryel That would be great o,o

                  1. @omni Pop onto IRC or AIM when you're doing the install and I'll see what I can assist you with ☺

                    1. @toksyuryel Which IRC? Official Gentoo one?

Tuesday, 01-May-12 16:40:46 UTC from MuSTArDroid
                      1. @omni Gentoo doesn't operate an IRC server, they just maintain a number of channels on Freenode which is where you can find me. I'm there as Toksyuryel.

Tuesday, 01-May-12 16:41:46 UTC from web
                        1. @toksyuryel Figures. Guess the channel I need would be #? Will see you there later then when I have time :Pp

Tuesday, 01-May-12 16:43:52 UTC from MuSTArDroid
                          1. @omni I'm not in the channel. Just open a private message window with me. In most IRC clients the command should be /query Toksyuryel

Tuesday, 01-May-12 16:45:01 UTC from web
                            1. @toksyuryel Ah, that's what you mean. Good, I'll try to remember (not the command, have known that for years)
