  1. I F5 more here than anywhere else. I saw another status-net site with real-time updates. Is this supposed to have it?

    1. @ponybis Why have you not installed @haganbmj's script yet? You appear to have every other browser addon already :P

          1. @starshine @zarkanorf Thanks, but before I saw your posts I already found and installed it myself. :p

            1. @ponybis Aww, this script isn't real-time like what I was looking for. I wait for a far shorter time than 30 seconds before F5'ing even.

              1. @ponybis Change the time, then

                1. @starshine I thought Statusnet was all PHP. I swear one of the main sites real-time updates, let me find it.

                  1. @ponybis There's a status.net plugin that does autorefresh, but admin hasn't installed that (nor do I think he plans to).

                    1. http://identi.ca/ this is what I was talking about when I was thinking of real-time posting. I'm assuming it's running the plugin @haganbmj mentioned.

                      1. @ponybis Pretty :O It even pauses the refresh when you're hovering over a post... that's nice

                  2. @ponybis PHP is the programming language, HTTP is the connection protocol. It is not persistent at all, every time you refresh it has to make another connection to the server, and exchange several kilobytes of stuff. Refreshing every two seconds is fairly abusive on the servers and not really useful considering the pace of conversation here is so slow anyway.

                    1. @starshine Sorry, I read that as HTML for some reason.

                    2. @starshine it should just refresh every time a new post is made

                      1. @rainbowdashismycopilot And how do you propose that your web browser find out that someone else posted something, without contacting the server?

                          2. @ponybis Oh you. @rainbowdashismycopilot You'd have to have a constant connection with the server for that, which would take a huge amount of additional resources on the server. Just refreshing every minute or so - and NOT every two seconds :P - gives roughly the same effect with far less processing/bandwidth required.

    3. @ponybis @starshine @zarkanorf Whoa, I was mentioned in a post. # should have all the information I've posted prior. The script just calls a second copy of the page basically and copies the posts over on an interval. It should work for basic purposes?
