  1. Hey... I'm Fluttershy. I saw this site and made an account. I hope you don't mind...

    1. @vt3c If you notice, anything regarding homosexuality in that article is commentary by the reporter designed to start drama. The actual bill only allows people freedom to express their religion however they desire; if people decide to twist their words to mean "beat up the gays" then they're the ones at fault.

      1. @redenchilada "A student could also stand in class and say their religion says that gay people are sinners and going to hell, and that speech would be legally protected." So a kid can disrupt class if he says his religion told him to?

          1. @redenchilada @mrmattimation "This bill specifies that a student may express beliefs about religion in homework, artwork, and other written and oral assignments free from discrimination based on the religious content of their submissions. A student would not be penalized or rewarded on account of the religious content of the student's work." actual text from the Tennessee Capitol website.

            1. @rarity I'm not seeing the problem with that.

              1. @redenchilada I fail to see how this quote from the article "At a basic level, a student could merely write “God” on a chemistry test as the answer to a question asking to where water comes from." is incorrect

                1. @rarity And he'd be counted wrong because that's not what the question was asking.

            2. @rarity Says nothing about persecuting gays.

              1. @mrmattimation when did I bananasing say I was talking about persecuting gays? The bill is stupid for more than jus tthat

                1. @rarity You're saying the bill is stupid because it allows people to freely express their religion. Gotcha.

            3. @rarity That's basically an endorsement of the kid's constitutional rights.

              1. @mrmattimation @nerthos but the "student cannot be penalized" part is what I'm getting at. Is it saying that the kid can't be marked wrong?

Wednesday, 21-May-14 00:55:47 UTC from web
                1. @rarity He can't be penalized for expressing religious views. It says nothing about being penalized for harassing another student or the like.

                  1. @nerthos @mrmattimation that's LITERALLY all I was asking, Jesus H christ

                    1. @rarity Well, I answered that as soon as I noticed that's what you were aiming for.

                    2. @rarity you didn't make it clear.

                      1. @mrmattimation He actually did. You were all too busy getting mad to understand what he was asking, I've been following the whole thing

                        1. @scoot Chill, nobody was getting mad at anyone, everyone was answering to the best of their abilities in relation to their understanding of the questions.

                          1. @nerthos Looked more like a group of people shouting at someone for thinking differently, lots of redashing each other and utterly failing to actually read his dashes.

                              1. @rarity Alright, it was just sort of a hideous display of the bullying mentality in RDN once again. Sick of it

Wednesday, 21-May-14 01:03:48 UTC from web
                                1. @scoot I'm sick of it too but it ended relatively quickly once they understood what I meant so it's not worth fighting over

Wednesday, 21-May-14 01:04:14 UTC from web
                                  1. @rarity I know, I'm done. Just couldn't sit here and say absolutely nothing about it this time.

                            2. @scoot That's because you assumed people were attacking someone. Cognitive bias.

                              1. @nerthos No bias, I was just watching the dashes come in. You're more biased than I, you were a part of it.

Wednesday, 21-May-14 01:03:09 UTC from web
                            3. @scoot In any case the whole issue already ended and discussing this would only lead to unneeded drama.

        2. @rarity Did I not just say that was added in by the author with the express intent to start drama?

        3. @rarity problem with freedom of speech is it goes both ways. The teacher can also have the freedom to kick that student out of the class.

        4. @rarity They couldn't legally prosecute for that, but that doesn't mean the school wouldn't send him to detention or something him like any other troublemaker.
