@widget Working on a 3D Pony related game. Need to recode the entire base system cause we're switching to C++ from C#.

I love that final moment when everything works, after digging though hundreds of error messages. http://i.imgur.com/ak7P0.png !coderpony

@minti You know, I actually don't know which of those two is worse and therefore cannot really say whether this is a good or bad change.
-
@toksyuryel Well C++ is harder, but has more power. And the engine is no longer wrapped in native-to-managed wrapper so there's more of a speed boost, and the C++ engine's community is broader and more talented compared to the C# version's community so... In this situation I think it's safe to say that C++ is the better choice. (I'd use C but, combining C and C++ is not a good idea at all. Especially considering the engine's API is in C++.)
-
@minti any spoilers on what it's about?
-
@renovatedkitchen ORPG.
-
@minti That you can't easily combine C and C++ is one of the reasons why I feel C++ is horrible XD but it does sound like C++ is at least better than what you were using, so I can't get angry about it :< dangit!
-
@minti not by yourself, right?
-
@toksyuryel @minti Plus the C++ version runs on Linux. SO I SHAL FORCE YOU TO HELP ME EVENTUALLY.
-
@renovatedkitchen Nah I have a few people working on this with me. :)
-
@minti I can't help with the code parts but I can help test!
-
@toksyuryel Exactly what I mean. :p
-
@minti that's good. Was gonna say, sounds very technical :/
-
@minti I'll see what I can do about setting up a chroot for this by the time it will be needed.
-
@renovatedkitchen Eh. The only thing I'm really worried about is the work speed. Our team is current consists of about 4 people. Eventually I'm going to have to add more to the team in order to make work go at anything higher than the land speed of a snail. xD
-
@toksyuryel xD Take your time, it'll be a good like 3 months before we even have anything really for QA. (I plan to abuse RDN for QA.)
-
@minti Sounds good.
-
@widget Nom. C.
-
@minti haha. I'm sorry to hear. But on the plus, all that effort will pay off in the end ^_^. Oh. And was it you that was saying you wanted to play around on a server setting stuff up here and there just to learn/have fun?
-
@renovatedkitchen Yep, that was me. xD
-
@minti if you want I can setup an unattended team viewer on my Mac server. It's Mac, but if you want you could have fun with it.
-
@renovatedkitchen Nah, I'm going to set up a debian box in the corner of my room, now that I have access to the router and can actually forward ports and such. I'll be using it to test the linux build of my game server. ^.^
-
AND WE'RE BACK! Hopefully. Man that was forever.
-
@minti that sounds awesome! Forwarding ports is always such a pain :(. Do you got a static ip?
-
@minti yep that was a good little while
-
@minti hehe, perfect timing XD
-
@renovatedkitchen Nope! Dynamic IP sadly. I'll deal with it by pointing a domain to the IP and never turning off my modem or something. XD
-
@minti But dynamic IPs are the best thing!
-
@nerthos Not when you're running a server professionally. XD
-
@minti I do not see a good reason to do that with a domestic internet connection, but oh well.
-
@minti wouldn't a dynamicDNS work? At least take my DYNdns account and use that if you'd like?
-
@nerthos Sometimes you just don't have the money but the thing still needs to get done.
-
@renovatedkitchen Most of those domains are flagged as malware by programs, that's why I never use them. It's basically the same if I use my own domain anyway. XD
-
@nerthos Eh, true. 80kb/s up really isn't good for hosting stuff. I should buy better internet. >.>
-
@toksyuryel Then you can use... @minti HAMACHI >:D
-
@minti What are you trying to host?
-
@minti I think renting a small server would be cheaper.
-
@nerthos Ew hamachi.
-
@minti Hehe.
-
@minti oh. Okay. Sorry about that then. Though I'd try to help. I thought it resolved the address to its IP, then pointed it to your computers MAC address? Suppose no though. Internet is a pretty crazy place. I just fool around with it :p. to me it's like gazing up at the stars.
-
@nerthos Maybe. I've been trying to decide between setting up my own box and upgrading my internet or just renting a VPS. It's the usual "High Setup & Fluctuating Maintenance Vs. No Setup and High Maintenance " stuffs
-
@minti What do you want to host
-
@renovatedkitchen It's the same as using No-IP/DynDNS really. I just take myamazingserver.tylian.net and point it to 174.138.198.16 or something.
-
@nerthos My game server mainly. Possibly nginx too or something.
-
@minti Haha, well tought
-
@nerthos :p
-
@minti For a game server you probably wouldn't need more than what you have. The only problem would be uptime. I succefully hosted a WoW test server with a connection that never went beyond 50K/s
-
@nerthos XD This is a custom game server, so I'm not exactly how well it'll do for bandwidth. I'm going to try and keep it low though. I'd prefer to run it on a dedicated box though.
-
@minti What game are you going to host?
-
@minti ah. Gotcha. I'm sorry. Like I say. To me it's like gazing up at the stars. :p
-
@nerthos My own. Like I said, custom. I'm coding the server myself. XD
-
@minti Oh, I'll await eagerly for the finished product to see, then.
