I think shows like BoJack Horseman and Rick and Morty are sort of revolutionizing animated storytelling. Sure does make me sad that they're both on low-budget networks (BoJack being a Netflix show, it's hard to see it getting past its third season), 'cause their odds of getting another season decrease with each year.

@mrmattimation I know the writers of BoJack are pretty anxious about its third season, but mainly because they've come so far and it's a steep drop from where they are now. I fully agree that they're revolutionising the genre, and I think fans appreciate that enough that the shows will get the support they need to either conclude gracefully, or to get one last bad season to peter out and die on.

@tiffany I mean, if Futurama can get cancelled seventeen times, why not, Zoidberg?
-
@scribus All shows about space get revived. Futurama, Doctor Who, Firefly- wait
-
@tiffany Aww... well, they did get "Serenity," right?
-
@scribus I guess if you count Serenity, Firefly DID get revived, spasm profusely, vomit on the carpet and die again
-
@tiffany You act like it was years worth of untested character development and worldbuilding crammed into a 90 minute love letter to itself. >_>
-
@scribus @tiffany I don't think it was a bad film (though I didn't love it either), it just gave the only closure it could in 90 minutes to a show that no one was ever going to have any interest in reviving. It also kind of did the opposite of fanservice, which got lots of invested viewers quite mad.

@northernnarwhal Yeah, it was a mixed bag, and there was just way too much to do in the time limit. Glad it happened, even if I didn't love it. A better sendoff than the X-Files got. Hmm.... and that had the non-Baldwin Baldwin guy in it, too.... #coincidence!?
-
@northernnarwhal My friend Joe watched the film before he watched the series and said it was good in and of itself
-
@scribus Yeah, I'm glad there was at least some conclusiveness to the series, narratively and thematically. And hey, for X Files we're at least getting that upcoming miniseries, right?
-
@tiffany I would've been kind of confused if I saw it without watching Firefly, but I can see it being good on its own
-
@northernnarwhal I think he was unaware it wasn't a standalone but I forget
-
@northernnarwhal Fingers crossed. I think I'm more optimistic about Twin Peaks. But that's really more friendly to open-endedness, all about the experience and junk.
-
@scribus Yeah, I think Twin Peaks favours the overt mystery of its writing to be unsolvable. It's a story suited to vignettes.
-
@tiffany It could be worse, he could be watching The End of Evangelion without having seen NGE. That would be an incredibly confusing experience.
