QUESTION: Is it legal for me, as a video maker guy, to paint toy guns so they look like real guns, or do I need a license for that?

@mrmattimation So, are you trying to get shot by someone?

@mrmattimation it's mainly a matter of not getting mistaken for the real deal afaik

@mrmattimation Bear in mind the NJ has some of the most stupidly draconian gun laws in the US, http://pny.lv/0egle

@mrmattimation In the Netherlands you are pretty much allowed to do what you want to do, as long as there are at least 2 of the 3 parts bright-alarm-orange. "Muzzle" "slide" "magazine, clip, or feeding mechanism". Also the muzzle should be comically sized... Pretty sure those laws are pretty much universally the same in the western world.

@mrmattimation I was at a costume shop in LA that rented prop guns. They had a sign that said something about needing a license or some kind of proof of legitimate film making or the like in order to rent one. No idea about making your own, though.

@mrmattimation Every person that plays airsoft ever does this and never has issue. Unless they are doing something stupid with the guns -.-
