    2. @redenchilada Dunno if there's a reference there I'm missing, but for the record "merely okaaaay~" is a lot better than par for course as far as film adaptations of games are concerned

      1. @narwhal Yeah it was amazing by videogame film standards. It just wasn't great by normal film standards

        1. @redenchilada Hm, I might go see it then. I have a friend who's a huge fan of R&C who I can drag along with me too.

          1. @narwhal I liked it but if you aren't into the games that much you'd be better off waiting for it to hit the DVD rentals

            1. @redenchilada I played one of the PS2 ones but I don't remember which. I'm mostly interested in the idea of a not-terrible game film, really.

              1. @narwhal Honestly, I thought the action scenes and aesthetics were good but the writing was Saturday morning cartoon-tier at best

                1. @redenchilada Is the writing of the games any different or is it also a vehicle for action?

                  1. @narwhal The games' writing (the PS2 ones, anyway, not sure about the Future saga or the new one) is really intentionally campy and goofy. I think it's supposed to parody 80s sci-fi but I'm not 100% on that.

                    1. @mrmattimation Mmm, that makes sense, especially given how all the titles seem to be really tongue-in-cheek innuendos.

                  2. @narwhal The games started out with largely filler plots, but when they moved to PS3 the writing started to get a lot more character-driven. (I haven't actually played anything past a short session of Crack in Time, though, so I dunno if they've gone one way or the other since that.)

                    1. @redenchilada Ah, so the action and aesthetics are generally its strengths across mediums.
