1. @renovatedkitchen You've got those all wrong. Except maybe the thing about linux, I've never used that to know.

1. @redenchilada Did you know that Android is Linux? It's true!

Monday, 16-Jul-12 06:32:37 UTC from web
1. @toksyuryel Oh yeah, I've known that for a while but don't tend to remember. I've never used linux on a _desktop_.

Monday, 16-Jul-12 06:33:41 UTC from web
1. @redenchilada Well, that's not _technically_ true. I used Puppy or something with a similar name off of a LiveCD to get some files off my old computer's hard drive when the OS blew up and needed a reformat. But that doesn't really count since I wasn't actually using the features for anything.

1. @renovatedkitchen that's too much, I spent $400 on my PC and I've had hardly any issues with any game I throw at it (only exception is GTA4, that shoddily optimized game)

1. @lyrica Exactly. Yet with consoles you just pop in a disk and know it will wolrk

1. @redenchilada and don't forget how some require DLC to have the full Experience (Arkham City and it's Catwoman DLC to have the full story (DLC Code is included with the game)) What Happens when those DLC servers are no longer around?

1. @renovatedkitchen Until then what? You'll keep badmouthing an OS you don't use and people who use it? I don't recall ever saying you should use it, just that I happen to use it for all those things you appeared to be saying it can't be used for.

1. @redenchilada Fair enough. Personally I couldnt care less. But all you need for gmod is a P2

Monday, 16-Jul-12 06:40:21 UTC from web
1. @renovatedkitchen I'm pretty sure you can build a PC that'll run any game released today (maybe not on max settings, but still) for less than $1k.

1. @redenchilada So why not throw in those couple extra dollars here and there so it can. Things add up quick.

1. @renovatedkitchen A lack of self-discipline when choosing parts is not a fault on PC gaming's part.

1. @redenchilada why not spend those extra dollars to have the best if you are building a gaming pc.

Monday, 16-Jul-12 06:48:14 UTC from web
1. @renovatedkitchen Because I don't need them to run the games I want.

Monday, 16-Jul-12 06:51:12 UTC from web
1. @redenchilada And what about others who play graphic intensive games. A console will outlast a gaming PC, especially in value.

Monday, 16-Jul-12 06:53:24 UTC from web
1. @renovatedkitchen Consoles have to be replaced, and backwards compatibility is solely at the discretion of the manufacturer. Meanwhile, becoming up-to-date in PC gaming is a matter of getting a new graphics card and maybe an upgraded processor, which combined are less than the cost of a new console. Don't get me wrong, both forms of gaming have their ups and downs, but console gaming isn't _cheaper_.

Monday, 16-Jul-12 06:55:32 UTC from web
1. @redenchilada The games themselves are also much more expensive on consoles, in the neighborhood of about $60 for most new games.

Monday, 16-Jul-12 06:56:34 UTC from web
2. @redenchilada You would need to upgrade your ram, cpu isnt too important, but if you do, good luck putting an AM3+ CPU into a motherboard with a AM3 socket. New video cards are expensive. Console gaming is cheaper.

Monday, 16-Jul-12 07:00:58 UTC from web
1. @renovatedkitchen Yeah ok I knew I was forgetting something. Still, a PC that's kept somewhat up-to-date is anywhere from a bit less to slightly more than a new console, and that's before considering that your computer also does computer-y things. Plus, like Toks said, the games are cheaper.

Monday, 16-Jul-12 07:05:32 UTC from web

1. @renovatedkitchen It's not dancing. I just stomp on arrows to the timing of the on-screen prompts that are synced to music.

Monday, 16-Jul-12 07:21:52 UTC from web

1. @renovatedkitchen It's actually a lot more challenging than you think it is.

1. @redenchilada Still seems pointless to dance to a screen when you can just go to a club and try some /real/ dancing and you can be social as well.

Monday, 16-Jul-12 07:30:29 UTC from web

Monday, 16-Jul-12 07:54:57 UTC from web

And don't even get me started on some of the people I know from r21freak who have an amazing FA on 17-blocks and oh my god you've got me talking about ITG and once I start I never stop

2. @renovatedkitchen So if you have a laptop for that, surely that has to be counted into the cost of console gaming? After all, somebody using a PC for gaming can use their PC for those tasks, so they don't need an extra machine.

2. @renovatedkitchen Well yeah, of course most people have a computer. You still had to pay for it, whether or not you owned it before the console. If you're using your computer for gaming, then yeah, it probably cost slightly more than the console, but hey, you got a work machine at the same time.

Monday, 16-Jul-12 07:16:21 UTC from web
1. @bitshift If I already have a laptop and do my gaming on consoles, I dont need another computer.

Monday, 16-Jul-12 07:19:42 UTC from web
1. @renovatedkitchen My point being -- cost for you to do work and gaming = cost of console + cost of laptop. Cost for a PC-only gamer to do work and gaming = cost of PC. So even if the PC cost more than your console, it probably didn't cost more than the two devices you need to get the same things done.

Monday, 16-Jul-12 07:21:44 UTC from web
1. @bitshift If I already have a laptop and need to decide between building a new computer for gaming or buying a console and plugging it into my tv....

2. @renovatedkitchen Alternatively, get a laptop that will play the games you want (crazy idea, I know, but I do it!)

1. @redenchilada I prefer my toughbook for a laptop as its built to be moved around like a laptop is meant to. And isnt fragile. Also, good luck upgrading your laptop

Monday, 16-Jul-12 07:28:33 UTC from web
3. @renovatedkitchen Okay, yeah. If you already have a laptop, then that makes sense. Still doesn't make console gaming universally cheaper, since anyone newly entering the market will run into exactly the cost situation I described.

Monday, 16-Jul-12 07:27:50 UTC from web
1. @bitshift They would also have to buy a screen, unless they plan on typing a document on a TV.

Monday, 16-Jul-12 07:31:14 UTC from web
1. @renovatedkitchen Most modern PCs (or more precisely, the graphics cards inside them) output HDMI, same as the consoles. They could quite happily use the exact same screen that would be suitable for the console. And even if they didn't do that (because having two screens for two devices _is_ more convenient), monitors are not expensive. The prices are still going to be very close, even before you factor in the price difference between the average new PC release and the average new console release.

Monday, 16-Jul-12 07:35:09 UTC from web
1. @bitshift I say, it all boils down to personal preference.

Monday, 16-Jul-12 07:37:07 UTC from web
1. @renovatedkitchen Pretty much, yeah. Neither is definitively better, except insofar as it caters to the tastes of the individual buyer.

Monday, 16-Jul-12 07:43:54 UTC from web

Monday, 16-Jul-12 07:50:53 UTC from web
