@renovatedkitchen nah Chrome works really well on this, it was temporary due to a Chrome-Flash issue.

@redenchilada it's been a problem with every version of FF for me since about 8 or so. A few of my friends with different computers from mine (and even some running different OSes) have reported the same issue.

@renovatedkitchen ugh. I'm going to get a new W7 PC for gaming purposes (seeing as I'm on a Mac right now) but I'm skipping out on Windows 8. The Laws Of Microsoft state that W8 is going to suck.

@nakkecil22 agree level: complete. Windows 8 will fail miserably. Unless they split it into COMPLETLEY SEPERATE OSes wherein one is EXCLUSIVELY metro, and the other is EXCLUSIVELY aero. From what ive heard, metro is a dream on a touch screen. But they are trying to use a touch interface on a non touch computer. That is NOT going to work. Maybe for the hipster touchscreen desktop things, but that will wear off once they find that you cant use your old windows 7 apps properly with a touch interface.

@techdisk42 Windows 7 is already going to be a nightmare for a lot of the games I plan on playing on it…I sense Windows 7 will have to be supported for even longer without an architecture reversion

@widget Thing is, nobody who is serious about using a computer will use a touchscreen. I know i wont. Not ever. All it will do is make things cost more. A good comprimise is what apple has with its multi touch touchpad. That i would use. On a laptop. On a desktop, i will never reach over to my screen to do things.

@techdisk42 ...You're commending Apple's desktop touchpad? Dude, touchpads only exist because there's not always room for a mouse in a laptop bag. Putting it on a desktop is beyond idiocy. Meanwhile, touch screens on computers can have perfectly legitimate uses!

@techdisk42 Honestly, Metro is going to be one of those things that are hard to justify while it's still growing and doesn't have much for it, but eventually it'll become the de facto standard. Just like Blu-Ray was! (Alternatively, it'll peter out and nobody will care about it. (like HD-DVD!))

@widget I know a lot of laptops that were bought from Amazon when I worked there had Chrome as the default OS, and I know HP and Dell offer it for their systems

@widget Honestly, this is a big reason Windows is successful. It comes pre-installed on almost any computer you can get and people will use what's on the computer they buy. If you people want Linux to become more popular, the best way to do so is to get some companies involved and get more inexpensive computers into the market with it pre-installed. Provide a setup with something like WINE pre-installed, if that's viable, so the casual computer user can use the programs sitting on the shelf across from the computer aisle. Y'all can develop your open standards and such all you want, but if the mainstream doesn't know about it, it's not going to have a chance to get away from "Microsoft's tyranny". (This has been an ignorance-filled soapbox rant from yours truly.)

@widget @techdisk42 I have programs that run on windows. What do I buy? Windows. I am a corporation who has been using windows all this time and the employees are used to it. Switch to linux and undoubtably have instability? Do I want to give my employees confusion or wait for them to set up their linux? No For a large majority of the population, Windows makes a lot more sense to use.

@widget Not being "exactly like Windows" doesn't stop Apple and the Mac OS from having enough of a market share to be viable. Dunno how you can help the hardware issues, though. Focus on using hardware that _does_ support Linux in the hypothetical inexpensive computers?

@techdisk42 8gb ram on my main rig. 4gb on laptop. If you keep up with your defrags on a tight schedule, It will be snappy. Same goes for every OS

@renovatedkitchen Honestly, the business area is a great place for Linux. You have less financial cost from licensing the OS, and the relatively controlled atmosphere gives much more flexibility as far as using open standards.

@redenchilada A corporation wants to know that they have full customer support from the manufacturer as well as from maker of the OS. Also, all of their current programs that they use are designed for Windows. Everyone already knows how to use Windows. The company would have to give lessons on how to use Linux. Thats money and more importantly, time that is gone.

@renovatedkitchen Because Windows costs money. Linux can have a very low overhead, and I'm fairly certain it has free programs that can do whatever a company would need to operate.

@redenchilada Companies have their own programs with lots and lots of database in them. It would not be feasible at all to switch to a OS that would need everything rewritten and have no customers support.

@redenchilada I mean the servers clients (the program that an employee would use to access the server). There are so many little things that need patching. Also, many companies do use windows server. It is very good and easy to setup and has a GUI

@renovatedkitchen Are you even listening to what you're saying? If a company can't get their programs working under Linux, that's only laziness on their part. Linux has its advantages and disadvantages, but the monetary factor is a _huge_ advantage to companies.
