1. Dear FiM-fic writers, please learn the proper use of "thee" and "thou" and make use of both when writing for Luna.

    1. @pony Also, please learn the correct conjugation of the verb "to be."

      1. @hakupony You're cheating, though - your mother tongue is already gramatically very much like Middle English. :P

        1. @bitshift Now that you say it - yes, kinda.

          1. @hakupony Yeah. The further back you look, the more pronounced English's Germanic roots are. We just lost a lot of them from absorbing elements of so many other languages in the intervening centuries.

      2. @hakupony @bitshift @toksyuryel Verb conjugations can be tricky. I'm very comfortable with the form of English just prior to King James (in other words Biblical English), but that's apparently antiquated when compared to Elizabethan English. I'm honestly not sure what Luna's official form is supposed to be.

        1. @pony Elizabethan English is fun if for no other reason than the euphemisms. "Much Ado About Nothing" indeed.

        2. @pony Ah, so THIS is the time of that day that RDN suddenly gets quite interesting and high-level discussions :P

          1. @omni @hakupony @bitshift @toksyuryel @bitshift It makes me want to write a tutorial/guide and maybe illustrate it for writers. xP -- you, your, thee, thy, thine, thou, are, art, is, has, have, hast, etc

          2. @omni It's also happened during the afternoon before, quite soon after I joined - I seem to remember @pony was involved in that discussion (religion - and goodness knows that's not usually a topic which goes well anywhere), too, actually.

            1. @bitshift @omni hehe* yeah I like to bring up stuff sometimes. I never know what will trigger that sort of discussion. It happens at random times as far as I can tell

            2. @bitshift I see. Well, @pony is often involved in religious discussions and, albeit I often do not agree with his views, I always find it interesting to discuss with him about it. The problem is a lot of people get too heated too quickly (and sometimes they twist words in their head, making a reasonable argument sound completely insane, though that happens to everyone, me included).

              1. @omni yeah. Happens to the best of us. :)

              2. @omni @hakupony I enjoy those conversations and find them interesting too btw! I've learned some neat things.

        3. @pony Given that she's quite dramatic, I would be very tempted to lean toward Elizabethan English, just for the Shakespeare connection.

        4. @pony Verb conjugations - we like to torture students with that :3

    3. @pony This. I have no problem with people going a little overboard with the olde Englishe, but things like "We understand thou problem" or similar just really throw me for a loop. Basically, if you're going to use something outside of regular language, please understand how to do it properly first.

      1. @bitshift @pony On a related note, if you can't write Shantotto-quality dialogue please do not include Zecora in your fanfics.
