    I can't help wondering during some of my office's follies and foibles, is Germany really as crisp and efficient as Eddie Izzard makes it out to be? @adiwan

      @scribus It's just appearance. I work for Volkswagen (not employed at Volkswagen) and they are pretty wasteful with time and money when it comes to their own projects.

      @scribus Also: If you have seen a construction site in Germany, especially when streets are involved, then it takes when they get finished. A new airport is build near Berlin and it got famous for taking so long and being horribly constructed such that they have to rebuild it again. Also not long ago a musical theater in Hamburg was finished that had also massive inefficiency problems when it comes to constructing that piece of brick. Germans are as inefficient as everyone else. They just appear to be busy.

          @scribus Japan has its own issue in that regard. While they're generally efficient, at least in industry, they tend to follow the toyota philosophy of "do everything in teams" and "get rid of everything that isn't immediately needed". That sounds good in paper, but it makes everything dependant on clockwork logistics. If something breaks there are no spare parts on the warehouse (or decomissioned decives to scavenge from) and if for whatever reason the company that sells the spares isn't working that day you can look forward to the production line halting for a day or more.
