  1. Isn't it amazing how many different people from varying countries and backgrounds My Little Pony has gathered? People of all races in one (or many) website(s) simply being themselves and displaying what they enjoy. It's an incredible thing.

    1. @dlcentaur It's literally just a show. You'll find the same thing for everything from Pokemon to Toy Story. They never talk about it, though. How about that!

      1. @abigpony Of course it's just a show. However, I've never seen a fandom so intimately friendly and open about their personal lives. I understand that Bronies aren't the first, nor are we the last of the "Society Defying" and "Gender Role Defying" fandoms. Regardless, the outcome of 'just a show' is quite heartwarming.

        1. @dlcentaur 1) we aren't society or gender-defying. Liking the show is not a social statement, just a hobby some may not agree with. 2) you've obviously not been in many fandoms because they're all like this in terms of openness, though that also depends on the person. 3) Again, all fandoms are friendly, we just use it as a selling point in relating it to the show because we feel the need to continue to justify our liking of the show by showing it's connection to the fans. We just flaunt it more. In later news, I'm a pessimist.

          2. @abigpony The only thing I must argue with there is 1) Bronies are Gender Role Defying, in a way. 13-35 year old Males watching a show about predominantly Female cartoon ponies doesn't sound like something societally "normal" for those of out age Group. I could take the point further by pointing to a large group of Bronies who own "Girl" toys. This is clearly not the social norm, and thus we are defying or in countercurrent with Society.

            2. @dlcentaur We don't actively defy it, it just happens to be outside of the societal norm. We aren't making a statement. We are not seeking to go against it, we just happen to like something that works out that way the "general public's" eye.

              1. @abigpony Actually many Bronies do attempt to make a statement against society's set order by begging the question: "Why can't boys play with dolls or do other 'female oriented' things, when Girls can do 'male oriented' things' without being heavily discouraged?"

                1. @dlcentaur and we don't like them because they're annoying people who think they're making a difference against a statement that people have defied for eons. It's no difference than doing so on a personal level.

                  1. @abigpony Perhaps a part of what they are doing is acting within that past defiance/normality. Society has conformed to an irrational ideal, and they seek to re-correct it to its prior state.

                    1. @dlcentaur what "prior state"? The state before cavemen hunted and killed animals while women gathered berries? Because societal norms are rooted in natural habits that are hardly relevant in today's world.

                      1. @abigpony The state prior to our current strict dislocation of Gender Roles. Yes, Gender Roles have existed since the beginning of Humanity. They have been through many changes. Many of said changes were for "Good" such as Equal Rights for Women. Society has written that Males should not enjoy seemingly "Girly" things. Bronies are in natural opposition to this, since the majority of us enjoy MLP, (a "Girly" show) partially regardless of whether society holds it to be Gender-appropriate or not.

                        1. @dlcentaur well women's rights have actually been opposed more through history because of things such as religion, which in itself has ruined society enough, but whatever. Society's predetermined gender roles aren't even really strict as much as varied personal opinion.

                          2. @abigpony I'm not going to argue that, because I think you're right. Personal opinions are the cause of much of our issues. x/
