   In German the word for queue is "Schlange". It's the same word for the word "snake". "In der Schlange stehen" means "standing in the queue". Translating it literally it means "standing in the snake". I'm happy that the snake population in Germany is low enough that this expression doesn't mean anything bad except for wasting time.

     @adiwan I grew up in rural Florida where standing in the snake was a real issue and I’m disturbingly comfortable around snakes as a result.
