@abigpony Well it was really weird. Like, involuntary movements and actually believing I was shy horse for a bit. It was certainly interesting but I don't think I'm gonna try it again. (Or maybe this weekend I will do it again, who knows. I'd like to not make it a thing, though, it felt like it could get addicting fast.)

@pony This was my first time trying anything of the sort. I had to work up quite a bit of nerve before actually doing it, and I was constantly monitoring my involuntary actions to make sure I didn't do anything dumb. (It also didn't work the first time, but a dark room and patience really helped it.) It was... surreal.

@redenchilada I've been reading about stuff like that recently, not just hypnotism, but other stuff as well. My real interest is in improving my thoughtform personally.

@pony Well, they're talking about i.e. being able to permanently hypnotize yourself into having greater self-confidence in the thread. I don't wanna go fooling with anything "permanent", though; it seems much too risky for me to try it.

@pony Yes, but the last thing I want is to do something wrong and permanently alter my mind in a way I don't want. I'm not saying it's bad or anything, just that I'm afraid to mess with it.

@redenchilada Just found and tried it. Was nice and calm until he told me to slow my heartbeat with my mind. I started having a goddamn heart attack

@abigpony I've been doing that since I was 8 or so.. nothing wrong with slowing your heartbeat.

@abigpony I didn't hear that in mine. But then, I had a file from earlier in the thread, probably by a different person. (Mine did mention "your new girl nethers", though, which I couldn't stop cracking up at the first few times.)

@pony The same thing happened to me once when I was young at a Psychic, too. Usually when people tell me to calm my heartbeat and slow it it races and I lose my breathe. It's odd.

@abigpony Also, apparently adding binural beats is supposed to help the process. I did it without them (somehow), but they'd probably increase the effectiveness I guess?

@pony Some things are easy, some things are not easy, and the sets of these things are different for every person and even then vary throughout their life.

@pony I mean, I might feel more comfortable with it if I do more of this kind of stuff, but like I said earlier, I don't want it to become a habit, at least not without doing a bunch of research into the subject first to find out exactly what the possible dangers/side effects are.

@pony And hypnosis certainly isn't an "easy" solution by any stretch of the term. You not only need someone who actually knows what they are doing, it also needs to be someone you can trust with having that level of control over your mind. And it's not at all an easy decision to come to to just outright change part of who you are like that.

@redenchilada I was instructed by professionals and books on developing my awareness so I never really felt worried about it, especially since it just seemed like a good idea to begin with, but I can see how you'd want more information before going into it.

@toksyuryel I agree legitimate hypnotism isn't easy, but if someone promises it is easy, I mean, that should raise red flags. I've come to think of hypnotism as being necessarily completely consensual, that the mind can't be controlled unless you give absolute permission (mentally), which is no small task and could never be accomplished through deceit.

@redenchilada What did you mean by "loop the first 4"? Like, all of them in a row and loop that? I don't know how to make that happen.

@abigpony Yeah. Just put parts 1-4 in a playlist and play it on repeat.

@abigpony Alternatively, I guess you could put them in order into an Audacity project and then loop that or something. I dunno, just whatever gets you a repeat of the parts in a row.

@pony Hate to break it to you, but consent can indeed be accomplished through both deceit and coercion. There's nothing mystical about hypnosis.

@toksyuryel nothing mystical no, but nobody can be forced to think something that they morally object to for example.

@pony Sure they can. All you have to do is get them to think they don't find it morally objectionable. You probably believe many things you would find morally objectionable if you ever really took the time to examine those thoughts.

@toksyuryel I'm aware that I /do/ many things that I believe are morally objectionable and that I try to avoid thinking about that fact sometimes to escape guilt. Still, such an incongruency creates guilt which, as long as I haven't desensitized myself through repeated offense to my moral compass, triggers a halt to my actions sufficient for me to think twice. A person always maintains supreme control of their core will (for lack of a better word), but it is possible to choose to remove all of one's inhibitions including the barriers that keep one safe from doing things that they'd never do voluntarily because they find them dangerous or objectionable. In order to get to that point though, they must make the decision to tear down those barriers. In other words, yes, people can be tricked into believing a person is trustworthy, but, unless they /want/ to be deceived, they can't be tricked into lowering their defenses. I can't see any reason to trust anyone in such a way.
