The game wasn't even that hard. A challenging game would remain difficult after your first attempt, not become something that even a comparatively inexperienced player can dash through without much difficulty.

@ceruleanspark I'm guessing that the hints that players can leave around or whatever ruined it?
-
@neurario No, it's just that the games difficulty really just stems from "haha, you didn't know what was going to happen next". Once you've seen it all once, any challenge the game had basically completely evaporates because everything unfolds the exact same way every time. The Sens Fortress area is the pinnacle of this: It normally takes first-timers multiple hours to clear it, as making a single error typically puts you back at the start. Someone who has cleared the area before, on the other hand, can seriously clear it in under 10 minutes, including beating the area boss.
-
@ceruleanspark So once you've beaten it once there's no point in going back to it? Shame. :/
-
@neurario It's got divergent paths, and trying different character builds and covenants make going back to it interesting and enjoyable, but you won't have the same WHY IS THIS SO PAINFUL experience again unless you give yourself amnesia between playthroughs.
-
@ceruleanspark This is why I love roguelikes.
-
@toksyuryel Like Nethack? I just discovered Nethack a month ago or so. It's extremely hard, but fun!
-
@toksyuryel FTL desperately needs more variety in its events. It always feels really "small".
-
@ceruleanspark I think the problem isn't so much a lack of variety as it is the rarity of seeing that variety. There's a TON of events, it's just that a small portion of them are very common compared to the rest.
-
@toksyuryel I think opening event creation to the community would be a neat idea. Obviously it'd open the floodgates for a lot of awful content, but I think it'd also bring a wave of really good stuff in too.
-
@ceruleanspark Tweaking the frequency of some events would help considerably before that would be necessary, I feel.
-
@toksyuryel I just gave brogue a try. It feels like Nethack running with SDL or so. Personally, I prefer Nethack because I find it much easier to understand the map in it and I move way too fast under Brogue, but perhaps I should just learn to play it better.
-
@omni brogue is definitely much more fast-paced than NetHack.
-
@toksyuryel Definitely. Perhaps I'll get used to it if I play more, but I really like Nethack's lower pace. Still, thanks for the tip!
