  1. Does anyone know how to deal with a potentially-abusive father who's just punched his spouse in the face and is too drunk to see reason? Not to bring down the mood or anything.

      1. @colfax, we have no baseball bat. We are British after all.

Saturday, 22-Dec-12 18:51:28 UTC from web
            1. @scribus I don't know, but it looks like a hammer.

              1. @nerthos Are you thinking croquet?

                1. @scribus That's a mallet.

                  1. @thelastgherkin Yeah, but a mallet is like a hammer in that they are funny in cartoons.

                  1. @thelastgherkin I don't know, all those british sports are confusing. Here it's either football, basketball, tennis or polo.

        2. @mastertdi Cricket . . . implement?

Saturday, 22-Dec-12 18:51:11 UTC from web
        3. @mastertdi Then use a cricket bat...

    2. @mastertdi Gun, and cops.

Saturday, 22-Dec-12 18:50:16 UTC from web
      1. @ everyone saying police, I know it seems like the obvious thing but if he flips out before they actually show up then I'm not sure how much of a good idea that is

Saturday, 22-Dec-12 18:52:12 UTC from web
        1. @mastertdi Do you have access to a phone?

Saturday, 22-Dec-12 18:52:45 UTC from web
          1. @redenchilada, yes, we do. @thelastgherkin, maybe, but I really really don't want to provoke him.

Saturday, 22-Dec-12 18:53:35 UTC from web
            1. @mastertdi Hit him with the phone until he goes unconscious. No more, though, don't wanna hurt him. (I'm sorry, I'm no help with things like this)

Saturday, 22-Dec-12 18:54:17 UTC from web
              1. @redenchilada, me either. That's why I asked you guys.

                1. @mastertdi, we have no medeival weaponry.

Saturday, 22-Dec-12 18:56:08 UTC from web
            2. @mastertdi You don't TELL him you phone the police.

Saturday, 22-Dec-12 18:54:44 UTC from web
              1. @thelastgherkin, hmm, good call there.

            3. @mastertdi Do you have a bow?

Saturday, 22-Dec-12 18:54:46 UTC from web
        2. @mastertdi It's better than him flipping out and they never show up.

Saturday, 22-Dec-12 18:52:49 UTC from web
        3. @mastertdi That's why if you can't subdue him, you run, then get the police in on it. He can flip all he wants while there's nobody to hurt and the cops are on the way.

Saturday, 22-Dec-12 18:53:03 UTC from web
          1. @scribus, we don't have many places to go. But police will probably be the best bet, yeah.

Saturday, 22-Dec-12 18:54:44 UTC from web
            1. @mastertdi You don't need a place to go, just a place not to be.

Saturday, 22-Dec-12 18:55:07 UTC from web
              1. @scribus, yeah, but we still need to know what he's doing, so we can't really be anywhere outside the house.

Saturday, 22-Dec-12 18:56:56 UTC from web
                1. @mastertdi Seems to me if he's already punched someone in the face, you don't need to know what he's doing - you have enough with what he's done.

Saturday, 22-Dec-12 18:57:40 UTC from web
                  1. @scribus, but if he leaves the house and we lose him then that won't make things any better

                      2. @scribus, aghh, I'm just not thinking right now. You're all right with the police and I'm just making things seem difficult.

Saturday, 22-Dec-12 19:01:10 UTC from web
                2. @mastertdi See, you take the woman, get out of the house, barricade the door from the outside. The cops come, beat the crap out of him, and put him in jail.

Saturday, 22-Dec-12 18:58:32 UTC from web
        4. @mastertdi The best thing to do is going away so he doesn't notice and just call the police. If you want to solve the situation yourself, you may provoke him and that would be really dangerous. and by avoiding to let hi know you called the police, you prevent him from snapping.

Saturday, 22-Dec-12 18:58:15 UTC from web
          1. Okay, so you all think police is best. I thought as much, but I'm still not totally sure. Part of me thinks that'll end badly for some reason. I'm more worried about keeping my mum safe from him currently.

Saturday, 22-Dec-12 19:00:22 UTC from web
            1. @mastertdi See, in the time you wasted here, the police could already be there.

Saturday, 22-Dec-12 19:00:51 UTC from web
            2. @mastertdi Good luck.

Saturday, 22-Dec-12 19:01:27 UTC from web
            3. @mastertdi Look, it boils down to this: Fight or flight. If you were a fighter, you'd be standing over a bloodied drunk, so you're reduced to flight. Now fly, you fool, and get someone qualified to fight for you!

Saturday, 22-Dec-12 19:02:08 UTC from web
              1. @scribus, well I am no fighter, so flight it is, I guess.

Saturday, 22-Dec-12 19:03:28 UTC from web
    3. @mastertdi Maybe get the hell off the internet and phone the police?

Saturday, 22-Dec-12 18:50:18 UTC from web
    4. @mastertdi Do you have access to a phone?

Saturday, 22-Dec-12 18:50:20 UTC from web
    5. @mastertdi If you're not 100% confident that you can take him, then take the spouse and leave. Come back later. Call police.
