    1. @redenchilada At least they don't make you use IE. The technicians here actually look in student computers and remotely remove foreign web browsers.

      1. @zeldatra You can pretty much install whatever you want on school computers here (I had Identicurse on the ones I used toward the end of junior year, and a lot of kids put VBA or ZSNES on their drives) but I keep Firefox on a USB drive so I'm not saving login credentials to a place where others could theoretically get to it.

        1. @redenchilada Lucky. Things are looking up, kids are finding all sorts of ways to get around the school firewalls. Someone even created a folder in the shared staff drive for program smuggling.

          1. @zeldatra Is that really a godd thing?...

          2. @zeldatra @redenchilada (The folder is called "Enhanced Entertainment", so the administrators think it belongs to some teacher and the haven't touched it.)

            1. @zeldatra XD That is a very official looking name

          3. @zeldatra Back at my high school, the computers had Explorer disabled so we couldn't open any drives or get to any files without going through an approved program first. Except Internet Explorer was approved, and we learned that you can point it towards local addresses and just browse files and fire up emulators through it. #

            2. @scribus Teachers are a bit dumb

              1. @projectrainbowdash Better still? The internet censorship password was set to the school's street address. That was figured out quickly.

            3. @scribus This school used to have almost no computer restrictions. Then some wise guy tried to crash the grade system using a command prompt and so they disabled permissions for like, everything. We can't even change our desktop background anymore.

              1. @zeldatra @scribus Welp, that escalated quickly

                1. @projectrainbowdash Furthermore, the firewall had blocked porn and stuff like that, but only in English, so a lot of Mexican sex sites got a lot of hits from our computer lab.

                  2. @scribus ITs like that at school, if its not english it ain't blocked

                  3. @scribus I remember when these computers weren't a freaking burden to use.

              2. @zeldatra Dang, harsh. Gotta admit, though, the CLI sure does look scurry. D:

                  1. @bitshift Let's put -v in there, too. I like to watch the text scroll by.

                    1. @scribus I like your thinking. (Just don't do it on a framebuffer console, since that noticeably slows the process due to text printing being actually kinda slow on those.)

                    2. @scribus Also, if your ~ is actually /home/scribus, that's pretty neat. :D

                        1. @scribus Silly Scribus. Why won't you embrace your scribosity?

                          1. @bitshift I like the "first initial/last name" username scheme. It'd be scaballus, except I don't really like the "scab" part of that upon having typed it... <.<

                            1. @scribus scribusc sounds okay, but also sounds like a taxonomic category.

              3. @zeldatra Sounds like you have to bash the head in of the person who tried to crash the grade system
