  1. I searched Chromebox on Amazon to make sure my bashing was well placed. This came up. http://ur1.ca/dhszq

    1. @zeldatra The Chromebox looks like a much worse Mac Mini from what I can see, but it IS cheaper? Still not useful

Tuesday, 23-Apr-13 21:14:15 UTC from web
      1. @scoot Yeah, it looks like a Mac Mini, except the processor sucks, the hard drive size is unacceptable (16GB), and all you can do on it is browse the web.

        1. @zeldatra How awful, they give you 100gb of Google cloud space but only for 2 years. My main computer is actually a Mac Mini and it is an absolute dream by comparison.

          1. @scoot The new one with the shiny i5 processor?

Tuesday, 23-Apr-13 21:19:34 UTC from web
            1. @zeldatra Sadly not, just a mid-2011 one.

              1. @scoot Ah. That's still cool. I'm planning to get a Mini or something because my laptop is dying and every Windows PC of comparable specs and price is Windows 8, so bluh.

Tuesday, 23-Apr-13 21:22:13 UTC from web
                1. @zeldatra Plus the Mini is upgradeable, so there's that.

                2. @zeldatra I'll probably get a new computer when I get my University grant money. This one is kind of battered due to being taken all over the place. Maybe a Macbook instead of the Mini,

                  1. @scoot If portability isn't an issue, an iMac is cheaper and has better hardware. The new ones don't have DVD drives, but you can just get a generic one from Asus for like $30.

Tuesday, 23-Apr-13 21:25:13 UTC from web
                    1. @zeldatra I'm going to be in UNIVERSITY, portability is everything.

                      1. @scoot In that case, a MacBook is probably best.

                        1. @zeldatra That's what I thought

                      2. @scoot I went to uni for four years and never needed a laptop?

                        1. @rotation I'm doing an animation course with an enormous amount of digital work necessary. I'll probably need a computer.

Tuesday, 23-Apr-13 21:29:24 UTC from web
                          1. @scoot yeah, I'd get a MacBook or a windows laptop in the same price range, and if necessary uninstall windows 8 and install windows 7.

                            1. @rotation obviously. :p

                              1. @scoot I'm not being a ****, I'm displaying one of my character traits: low self confidence.

                                1. @rotation there seem to be a lot of people with low self confidence around here. o.o

Tuesday, 23-Apr-13 21:40:46 UTC from web
                                2. @rotation Sorry, I got a bit defensive because I was so sure of my plans and it seemed like you were saying I'd got it all wrong and I panicked a bit. I did think it was out of character for you to be that way

        3. @zeldatra It's Google trying to push cloud computing on the masses so they can charge you a subscription to retain access to your files.

          1. @redenchilada I'm sure in time it'll be a copyright violation to have copies of YOUR OWN DATA.

Tuesday, 23-Apr-13 21:20:35 UTC from web
            1. @fhqwhgads in time your computer will only be 'rented' and you won't be able to customize it at all. :|

Tuesday, 23-Apr-13 21:21:29 UTC from web
          2. @redenchilada But the only people paying attention are the tech types, who typically know better than to buy a machine with only cloud space for a hard drive. The masses go to PC World or whatever tech store there is in America and ask the man who works there to find them a computer that does emails and the wifi

            1. @scoot The masses here shop at Walmart or Best Buy

Tuesday, 23-Apr-13 21:23:24 UTC from StatusNet Android
              1. @redenchilada ew. Both are equally horrible.

Tuesday, 23-Apr-13 21:24:14 UTC from web
                1. @flamingpandaomg Best Buy seems to get a lot more flak than they deserve imo. I haven't had a bad experience with them and we've bought basically anything computer-related from them.

Tuesday, 23-Apr-13 21:25:26 UTC from StatusNet Android
                  1. @redenchilada You haven't had a bad one, but I've literally had nothing but bad things from them. They've overcharged for electronics and I don't want to even start with the whole Geek Squad thing.

Tuesday, 23-Apr-13 21:26:40 UTC from web
                    1. @flamingpandaomg I've never had to deal with their repair services, since the only thing that's ever broken was still under manufacturer warranty. I don't think they overcharge for stuff but I'm also not the kind of guy who builds his own computers.

Tuesday, 23-Apr-13 21:28:18 UTC from StatusNet Android
                      1. @redenchilada Yeah, their pre-built pcs are pretty decent, but parts / cables (specifically HDMI) are incredibly overpriced.

Tuesday, 23-Apr-13 21:29:32 UTC from web
              2. @redenchilada I wasn't sure if you guys had a dedicated PC store that people used or not. Otherwise I think it's still the same deal there as it is here.

Tuesday, 23-Apr-13 21:24:41 UTC from web
                1. @scoot generally people just buy from wal-mart or best buy, sadly. :|

                  1. @flamingpandaomg What a strange world you all live in. We still have little shops that sell certain things and even then our biggest Tesco doesn't sell PCs.

                    1. @scoot If I'm buying anything pc-related, I just buy from Newegg/Tiger Direct.

                          1. @ceruleanspark imo, the only worthwhile android tablets are the ASUS Transformer line and the Google Nexus line. :\
