Considering the only people on SBN who are also on RDN are banned from there and that site is almost entirely stuff that doesn't fly here, might it be a good idea to block communication between the two servers entirely? That'd keep their stuff from leaking over here, anyway.

@redenchilada who aren't also*
-
@redenchilada That would be a good idea. It'd stop SOMEONE's picture of toaster yiffing leaking over here.
-
@thelastgherkin I never intended that to transfer over (plus I don't use SBN any more?)
-
@redenchilada OK, so how do we do that?
-
@redenchilada out of curiousity, what's SBN?
-
@xeleanorxrigbyx hell
-
@xeleanorxrigbyx A less than SWF no-rules iteration of this site.
-
@ceruleanspark You're the guy who knows how servers work :x
-
@swagduin I was under the impression that SBN actually was a Flash file
-
@xeleanorxrigbyx The bootleg porno version of RDN
-
@xeleanorxrigbyx Nothing.
-
@rarity @swagduin @redenchilada @maou very well.
-
@rarity You learn something new each day.
-
@redenchilada @cerulanspark We could always blow up Minti's house. With the guy who pays the bills gone the site would disappear.
-
@swagduin I'm pretty sure the guy who hosts it does so for free and without safe harbor provisions
-
@ceruleanspark We can posin the guy who hosts it then.
-
@swagduin *poison
-
@redenchilada I mean I guess I could literally block requests from that server via IPTables or even a hosts file but I'm not sure that'd have the intended effect.
-
@ceruleanspark @redenchilada I enjoy getting RDN dashes over on SBN and on rare occasion I enjoy seeing my SBN subscriptions on mustard through RDN but I suspect I'm the only one who does. Would blocking server requests prevent receiving dashes on SBN?
-
@pony It's more of a matter of "Unless SBN is blocked, there's no control over the promoted tags"
-
@redenchilada Minti, mushi, and I are maybe the only ones who use both. Who is the RDN equivalent of @sloppydrunk@micro.sweetiebelle.net ?
-
@pony That would be the idea. I get that a few people do communicate between the sites for legitimate reasons, but it's probably worth the tradeoff unless someone alters Promoted to not read remote notices (which would honestly be the better solution but I'm not really sure)
-
@swagduin oh I see. So my TOTW posts there showed up in the promoted area here? That makes sense
-
@pony Unless things have changed that's scribus. There are literally two people there who aren't on RDN; one wants nothing to do with us and the other is banned :'c.
-
@redenchilada yup. good ol' bootleg nsfw SBN. Maybe a more permanent solution could be found later but it may be worth the tradeoff like you said. Of course I don't see Grey abusing the fact that totw gets promoted here, and I think TOP wants to keep the confederation so he wouldn't abuse it either, for what that's worth.
-
@pony Yes. That is exactly the problem, and you probably can se why it can be allowed.
-
@pony TOP's account is remotely silenced. (Widget's decision, not mine. I'd much rather that not be the case.)
-
@redenchilada why the hell his Widget so keen on alienating TOP when everyone loves him
-
@rarity I don't know and I don't like it.
-
@redenchilada I'd tell you to talk to him about it but I'm sure you do that so I dunno
-
@redenchilada Ah I see. So that's still in effect. I wish I remembered why that happened.
-
@swagduin oh se can u see!
-
@rarity You have no idea how much I nagged him when he did it
-
@redenchilada "BUT WID-GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET"
-
@redenchilada Widget wants you to do it. He did explain what needs doing. "He knows how to Git, and we've collaborated before, so... All he needs to do is change the SQL query to not include those posts. It's the _streamDirect function iirc Unfortunately it's not a raw SQL query though. It's in SN's DB OOP class. But he should be able to figure out what functions are available if he looks at other parts of StatusNet, and extlib/DB/DataObject.php"
-
@ceruleanspark Okay. I'll look at it later, then.
