    2. @theowl You think that's bad? I only just yesterday bought the original Smackdown vs Raw game on PS2, and that came out in 2004 XD

Friday, 29-Jul-11 13:44:57 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
      1. @leonkfox I remember the very first Smackdown game I ever bought in 2001 or something, 'WWF Smackdown! Just Bring It'. I was still playing it when Smackdown vs Raw came about. Also since we're talking about being behind the times, games I haven't played: COD4, MW2, Killzone, GTA IV, Halo (any of them), FEAR, Mass Effect... the list goes on. My 360 was only bought a year ago and until then I had a PS2. Damn, I need to catch up!

        1. @theowl Just Bring It was actually my least favourite of the original series of Smackdown games (the original to the first Smackdown vs Raw) and the funny thing is I actually owned Smackdown vs Raw 2006,2007 etc...yet I never had the first Smackdown vs Raw until now. Now all I need is WWF Smackdown 2: Know your Role on the PS1 and I have the whole set XD (At least as far as Smackdown games go) I've not played a number of popular games this generation though, either (or at least not beaten them)

Friday, 29-Jul-11 13:57:39 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
          1. @leonkfox Just Bring It was honestly unplayable, you're right. I had a tourny with my next-door neighbour when she got SVR in 2004, we played matches on both so we got to compare controls.

            1. @theowl Well it had the same gameplay as the first two...but that was the problem, the first two were PS1 games. Shut Your Mouth for some reason felt a lot better to play, but it wasn't until Here Comes the Pain that the series truly moved to what was at that time "The Next Generation" but sadly after the game that followed right after that (Smackdown vs Raw) the games while still fun as of Smackdown vs Raw 2006 have lost that appeal that made them still enjoyable beyond the year they came out, much like games like Fifa. Plus I kind of miss the arcady gameplay of the originals. I still like to buy and play them though.

              1. @leonkfox FIFA was absolutely horrible in the PS2 era, PES walked all over it. Current-gen FIFA is better than current-gen PES, though.

                1. @theowl I don't even play football games, I don't like football period XD I just used that as an example of a series where only the latest installment is worth playing to someone who's a fan, like Smackdown has been since Smackdown vs Raw 2006.

Friday, 29-Jul-11 14:13:32 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
                  1. @leonkfox Aah, I see what you mean. That's really what you're going to get with any sports series, they don't have any plot to them so the only thing keeping them going is improving gameplay.

Friday, 29-Jul-11 14:15:26 UTC from web
                    1. @theowl Exactly. Yet in spite of that, I can still play WWF Smackdown to the very first Smackdown vs Raw in 2004 and enjoy them about as much as I did when they were new. The same can not be said for SD vs Raw 2006 onwards, something just...changed after that installment.

Friday, 29-Jul-11 14:18:21 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
                      1. @leonkfox They introduced new controls in 2006, didn't they, stamina and stuff? That might have something to do with it. I don't know, I haven't played wrestling games in many years.

Friday, 29-Jul-11 14:20:49 UTC from web
                        1. @theowl The revamp in controls didn't come until Smackdown vs Raw 2007. I think it was just how less arcady it was, and plus mid 2005 (Summerslam to be precise) was the year I started a 6 year hiatus from actual watching WWE so I guess that may also have something to do with it. The more realistic approach never made sense to me, professional wrestling isn't realistic, it has elements of sport but all in all the more arcady gameplay not only made more sense, but gave the games greater lasting appeal I think.

Friday, 29-Jul-11 14:28:50 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
                          1. @leonkfox I think they might have made it more realistic because they saw that more children than adults were playing. Don't know about you, but I didn't get keyfabe when I was a kid, I thought it was all real.

Friday, 29-Jul-11 14:30:37 UTC from web
                            1. @theowl Oh, I did as well XD I didn't learn what angles, keyfabe etc were until just shortly before I'd stopped watching until earlier this year (2001 to 2005) but I would have thought more kids would have meant more arcady gameplay would be more appealing, especially nowadays where it's actually PG! (Mind you, even in the PG era the games have still had blood and heavy weapons useage, which I find odd, but I don't like to look gift horses in the mouth XD)

Friday, 29-Jul-11 14:40:04 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
                              1. @leonkfox I should say I was originally watching from 2001 to 2005, and didn't start watching again until earlier this year.

Friday, 29-Jul-11 14:41:10 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
                              2. @leonkfox You'd think that but I remember really liking SVR because it had that thing where you could damage different body parts with attacks. Helped immerse me more since I had trouble believing that someone could shrug off a sledgehammer to the neck like they could in the previous games.

Friday, 29-Jul-11 14:42:15 UTC from web
                                1. @theowl That was actually added in Here Comes the Pain in 2003, but I loved that as well, it added a degree of realism but was still arcady at the core, as was Smackdown vs Raw, but from SD vs Raw 2006 I just think they've been TOO realistic, at times more realistic than the product they're based on which still jars me to this day, and we're headed into WWE 12 (gonna miss the Smackdown name :()

Friday, 29-Jul-11 14:47:08 UTC from web
                                  1. @leonkfox Aah well. Can't want everything as it used to be, that path leads to being a conservative, a fate worse than death!

Friday, 29-Jul-11 14:48:52 UTC from web
                                    1. @theowl There are plenty of things that I think should revert to the way they were, but others that are better in their new form (could not think of a better example of this than My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic) but if you mean politically I am as far removed from a conservative as can be.

Friday, 29-Jul-11 14:50:31 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
                                      1. @leonkfox I mean like in general, it's really easy to fall into conservatism. You start out wishing things were back like they were when you were a kid because you're looking back with rose-tinted glasses and soon you're complaining about the youth of today and the 'decay or society' or whatever. It's almost happened to me!

Friday, 29-Jul-11 14:57:13 UTC from web
                                        1. @theowl Well I gotta confess, even though I do enjoy watching WWE nowadays (it's improved a lot in 2011 since I felt it started going down hill) I don't think it's just nostalgia that makes me hate John Cena as "the big man" in WWE, I love CM Punk and The Miz and they weren't part of my childhood, I just don't like Cena period. Same goes for other things I like like Thomas (hey, this is an FiM community, I hold no shame!) the characters were much more well rounded than they are today, sometimes nostalgia can blind one's judgement, but it isn't always the deciding factor I feel.

Friday, 29-Jul-11 15:03:32 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
                                          1. @leonkfox Oh yeah, I'm not saying that it's the only thing affecting your call but if you're not careful then it can consume you, especially when everything has changed (which it will!) from now.

Friday, 29-Jul-11 15:06:34 UTC from web
                                            1. @theowl I guess I can see where you're coming from, and I have fallen into it at times I must admit, but then again, who hasn't? And in a lot of the instances with me it felt like there were actually problems with these things at the very core. But an example of a fanbase that I feel is heavily blinded by nostalgia is the Sonic fanbase, yes there have been plenty of bad newer games (Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic 06...*shudders*) but even with the series improving people are still going on and on and on about how they don't live up to the Mega Drive games even when they can easily be seen as good games in their own right. It's irritating as all hell.

Friday, 29-Jul-11 15:11:48 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
                                              1. @leonkfox Oh god, the Sonic fanbase... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v516/Offkorn/4chan/DoNotWant.png

                                                1. @theowl Well, the FiM fanbase can be pretty out there sometimes, but even the worst this fandom has to offer PALES in comparison, and this is coming from a fan of both.

Friday, 29-Jul-11 15:15:11 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
                                                  1. @leonkfox My greatest fear is that Chris-Chan starts liking FiM. He already enjoys G1-3 D:

Friday, 29-Jul-11 15:17:06 UTC from web
                                                    1. @theowl ...don't even joke about that. ;-;

                                                      1. @noizybrony Maybe he'll start drawing a new comic and introduce Twilight Sonichu, born in CWCville Virginia and Christian Weston Chandler's daugher from far in the future. Then he'll dress like her and walk about Ruckersville.

Friday, 29-Jul-11 15:21:16 UTC from web

                                                      1. @leonkfox From the CWCki: "The last known reference to MLP made by Chris was on the Tomboys and Tomgirls of Virginia forum, where Chris used a picture of Applejack from the more recent My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic animated series as his avatar (though his screen name was modeled after the nickname of another major character- Rainbow Dash)." My response: "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"

                                                        1. @theowl I was kind of expecting it, since he enjoyed previous generations...how anyone could enjoy those as an adult is beyond me, I mean I may be being somewhat hyprocritical here since I enjoy a lot of things aimed at kids, but they usually have characters that aren't all carbon clones of one another, I like to think.

Friday, 29-Jul-11 15:26:08 UTC from StatusNet Desktop

                                                            1. @leonkfox We were talking about the sonic fanbase and the first thing I think of when I hear 'sonic fanbase' is sonichu.

Friday, 29-Jul-11 15:30:08 UTC from web

                                              2. @leonkfox Gosh, i am so guilty of the things listed concerning the sonic games, but even I can see when the fanbase goes a little too far with their bashing and constant bickering.

Friday, 29-Jul-11 15:14:38 UTC from web
                                                1. @noizybrony I've seen people grapesing about the colour of Sonic's eyes before, I mean the SHADE OF BLACK IN THEM! There's fondness/nostalgia, and then there's being obsessed.

Friday, 29-Jul-11 15:22:44 UTC from web
                                                  1. @leonkfox Oh boy, then there was the whole thing about his shoes. his SHOES for christ's sake! :C

                                                    1. @noizybrony Indeed. I can understand some complaints with the gameplay up until Unleashed's day stages and onwards, but when you start complaining about things like that you need to find yourself some other interests besides Sonic.

Friday, 29-Jul-11 15:28:01 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
                                                      1. @leonkfox Really, it's just like "What do his physical characteristic details have to do with gameplay?! LOLWAT!!"

                                                        2. @noizybrony Exactly!

Friday, 29-Jul-11 15:35:33 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
                                                          1. @leonkfox I think really that's my only gripe about any newer sonic games. The camera is jerky and frantic, and the control response is sometimes slow and unmanageable. If it weren't for those factors, i wouldn't doubt that the games would be pretty alright.

Friday, 29-Jul-11 15:38:33 UTC from web
            2. @theowl But Just Bring It also had the absolute worst storyline/season mode I have ever seen in my experience, it was just 3 matches, repeated scenarios like crazy...eugh. Mind you, the 24/7 Mode in Smackdown vs Raw 2008 wasn't much to right home about either.

        1. @theowl unless you brought the game of the year pack *the one with all DLC attached* I can recommend this link as a needed device http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Portal:Fallout_3 there is SO much hidden stuff that this can help...plus its essential to work out how to get the unique chinese assault rifle, the Xaolong. I can also recommend that you boost and/or tag repair, lockpick and science...there are SO much useful crap hidden in areas locked by lock or computer and repair will allow you to fix weapons to full health without spending caps at shops, allowing you to spend it on ammo instead

          1. @captlynch I snagged the original one for a fiver on ebay, GOTY edition was like £40 or something stupid like that. I like to play the games without guides at first, makes it more interesting.

            1. @theowl keep that link safe through...its useful for finding the weapons off the beaten track...and so far that guides the only thing that I found able to tell me how to find the unique chinese assault rifle...well, its not a guide per see...most of the weapon location files are seperate from walkthroughs so spoilers are non existent/rare...plus the DLC is pretty cheap...last I checked its was 800MS per DLC...

            2. @theowl and follow the tag skill tips I gave...I can safely say they are essencial...espetially in the later sections of the game

              1. @captlynch I enjoy making mistakes in rpgs, I have a dwarf fortress mentality (losing is fun!). But thanks for the advice, I guess.

        2. @theowl and put any spare into energy weapons afterwards and boost strength as well as getting the strong back perk...it may seem strange to go for energy weapons but *spoiler* when the enclave start popping up, you'll quickly have all sorts of fun energy weapons like lasers and plasma weaponry
