    • @scribus I saw that on The Daily Show With Trevor Noah and The Late Show With Steven Colbert. I had to instantly laugh when I saw that each time. Make-up, firemen breathing masks, masks in hospitals, masks at mask balls, face paint at sports events and Carnival (Mardigras) and Halloween.... ALL SINNERS!

about 3 days ago in context
    • @adiwan Well, more than zero of them have previously railed against makeup, Halloween, Madri Gras, and fun in general...

  6. I admit that I was lenient towards this at the beginning and didn't take the whole thing very serious, however I did my usual things like proper hygiene and my natural behaviour of avoiding people, but very soon I did everything right with wearing masks and such. I had underestimated the outcome and spread before. But after all of the evidence I cannot fathom why people can be still so stubborn.

about 4 days ago from web
    • @adiwan I've usually been a bit cavalier about new diseases, too, aside from standard flu-season hygiene. I was on team "don't wear a mask if you aren't sick, we need them for front line workers" until the new science came out. And I, too, do not understand people who take the advice of a group of uneducated desert monks who've been dead for two thousand years and their demigod fanfiction over modern science and medicine.

about 4 days ago in context
    • @scribus As far as I could seen in the videos nobody has used religion as an excuse. I've seen more messages about being fed up by the government and being told what to do, and being inconvenienced, as well as skepticism of the whole pandemic and the virus itself.

about 4 days ago in context
    • @adiwan I guess I don't really know that a major amount have been using religion specifically, but it just seems common in a lot of science denial.

Now my hair is short again such that I do not need my hair drier for a while because it dries quickly on its own. I also gave a bigger tip.

about 7 days ago from web
    • @adiwan Curious, do you have establishments that might be more of a "barber shop" situation? Like, in the USA, there's sort of a "barber for men, salon for women" thing going on. I kind of like the idea of just a neutral "haircut place."

about 7 days ago in context
    • @scribus Most places I know in Germany and Poland offer cutting hair both for men and women but they are sectioned off in a way, men front, women back (with or without a wall in between). Smaller places with less traffic do not have that.

There are only very few places that are highly specialized on either gender, like for men and offering more services for beard grooming.

My favorite place has men in the front and women in the back. It's a Turkish lead establishment that has some fancy services like pulling eye brow hair with string for both genders, often used by people with monobrow tendencies and the pulling of the hair creates a very clean look without stubbles.

    • @scribus I saw a curved monitor at a store recently. I get why some people want them but I am on the side that who wants the screen flat, except for retro games (NES, SNES) the screen can bulge out a little bit.

    • @adiwan It's not especially pronounced. I've seen some that were gnarly, like you need peripheral engaged to see anything, but this isn't too bad. I think I'm more tripped out by how wide it is, coming off of the laptop life. :p

    • @scribus I can feel that. When I had my 50'' 4k TV in front of me it was slightly overwhelming. Before that my 24'' 1920x1200 PC display was huge when I upgraded from a 15'' CRT. On the laptop side I highly prefer the 13'' size.

    • @scribus he gave a very “somber and serious” press conference where he refrained from blasting the media, and he stayed off of Twitter for about 48 hours where all he did was retweet campaign and White House statements and, in one instance, encourage the Senate to pass a bill that the leaders of both parties already publicly endorsed. His next press conference was, of course, a total appleshow. I imagine his new campaign manager was behind the changes and I imagine he’ll be fired very soon.

    • @scribus two people, straight-up eighty years old, start scuffling when the get off the bus. Idk who started it but they were each saying the other one shoved them. They were yelling and pushing each other and one of them started demanding we call the police and then when the police came suddenly the dude didn’t speak English and we had to get a Chinese-speaking cashier to interpret and at some point in the translation his story changed and he said nobody shoved anybody, she just fell. Nobody got arrested but I’m pretty sure the lady’s gonna press charges cos they’re neighbors and they have to see each other every day.

  22. If you flip two coins you can assume that 25% of the time, both coins will land on heads. This would make it an unlikely event. However, you flip both coins, and they both land on heads. Are you incorrect for thinking that this outcome was unlikely?

According to a Trump supporter, yes, you are, you batcaveing retard, it landed on heads, how could it be a 25% chance if it happened?

    • @mrmattimation I took Intro Stats in college, there was a guy who couldn't grok "expectation" in the example given. The odds of the Lotto being so bad, one's dollar "investment" is expected to pay maybe pennies. He kept saying, "No, if I buy a ticket, I expect to win it all!" Mostly unironically, it seemed.
