@engelhardt O we got conversing a bit, but the issue I think is as you say, people join say hi and leave. Maybe you can change that? Give us something interesting to talk about :) you never know, maybe meet a brony near you, you know how it goes. Forums to start with are slow, but they will get better as time goes around.
