@mk and now, I have run e2fsck on the image file created by ddrescue - in phases, to also check if repairs actually 'stick': and they do! So now I have a HD that (as I suspected already) has somehow turned itself into a ROM, and a repaired image! Next: see what I have by using UFS Explorer on the repaired image. BUT #breakfast first! #progress

@mk ...and: more real #progress. The version of Wordpress available for ASUSTOR is 3.4.1 - that's ancient (in internet time) but I could not find anything on the ASUSTOR forum about upgrading it (the latest is 4.2.2). So... let's try: I made a backup of all the files, and of the database, and then clicked the button. And yes, fully automatically the software was upgraded, and I got a new login prompt. Site (teh default page) also still displays well. And now a *lot* of plugins become available that require a version greater than 3.4.1 - so, on to the security plugins! (I'll also need to put the tweaks of my theme in a child plugin.) When all that is done, I can finally start to write... \o/

@mk ...and slowly, slowly, am I getting this nice #NAS box called Hal a bit more under control. Lots of riddles and #frustrations today, but also #learning, #discoveries, and #progress. In all, a good day (in spite of seemingly having a cold!). And more things to figure out #tomorrow. Like: *which* changes that I made *actually* made cron start writing to a log file? and: how do I replace a @reboot crontab rule because BusyBox doesn't support it? There are probably 2, maybe multiple ways... #hammock, for now!

@mk yay! I FINALLY managed to get (busybox...) crond to log to a log file; though setting the log level via '-l N' does not seem to be supported (but there may be a workaround for that via '-d N'). So now I know that a) the updatedb command (to update locate database) is actually running and b) that it is unsuccessful because the output file is locked. #real #progress

I'd gotten way behind with my 'clearing house' diary again and tried to catch up today - good #progress but not there yet. The trouble is on most days I'm just too tired by the end of the day to write so I jot down a few notes or nothing at all - and the later I have trouble reproducing what happened #dufferette

I just revived my old(ish) little Synology USB station which can make up to two USB devices available on the network. It's running, and I got as far as providing access for (user on) Marie to the one portable USB drive I connected: I can browse files, including pictures - not superfast, but usable. Now I need to figure out how to properly set up a SMB (Samba) client on Marie (Debian) and/or Dennis (Fedora). #progress #network

Thanks to a new (old) resource I found I'm finally beginning to suss out Gigolo (and why I need it with Xfce and (apparently) OpenBox on #!) - setting up proper bookmarks for the Windows Shares on old Marie first; once that's done I'll tackle networking the Linux machines with each other. #progress
