The new Animaniacs series slaps.
Sunday, 22-Nov-20 10:06:45 UTC from web-
@scribus I just watched all the 13 episodes. It's good. Not overwhelmingly good. Good good. Some jokes and segments were not to my own taste but the rest was good 'ol fun.
-
@adiwan @scribus I enjoyed it quite a bit, although I definitely thought the Pinky and the Brain segments were generally the better parts of the episodes they were in. Not that the Warner Bros. segments were bad at all, they were pretty funny, I just thought P&B had waaaaay less misses.
Scribus likes this. -
@mrmattimation Pinky and the Brain operate from a well-established formula and it s not very surprising that their segment is the more consistent one. I still agree that they were mostly the better part of the show.

Because I'm somewhat of a dumbass, I only recently learned that one of Ireland's symbols is the harp. I had some vague familiarity with the Guinness harp (though I don't drink often) but I didn't really connect it. It's on Euros too of course, but I either didn't use any when I went to Spain or wasn't paying attention.

@adiwan I figured, but it would have been funny all the same :p
-
@adiwan Yeah, I've seen a mixture of different designs and countries since I've gotten here. The US started a thing a while back for the states. Not sure if they ever stopped since the original coins are still in circulation. Wasn't paying much attention to the years.
-
@thismightbeauser I think they completed the first run of 50 states a while ago, and have gone into a couple cycles of state-themed stuff, like birds or trees or something, but we've been on a "coin shortage" all pandemic so I haven't seen quarters in weeks at least, lol

It depresses me that there are less and less new PC cases with space for optical drives (CD/DVD/BluRay). I'm starting to look around for a new PC. As my PC is older and my case has only USB2 ports and an unreliable headphone jack, as well as showing wear I want a new one. My current case is from Cooler Master from 2006. @scribus What even happened to floppy drives, EDO RAM, user-upgradable CPU cache, manually selectable device IRQ, Soundblaster, 3Dfx, CRT monitors, PS/2 keyboards, ball mice, IDE, SCSI...?
-
@adiwan I'm willing to let go of ball mice, but I still want me some PS/2 ports because damn it you only give me four USB ports and expect two of them to be mandatory input devices???
-
@scribus I'm glad my monitor has an integrated USB hub. I have a mouse, keyboard, scanner, drawing tablet, VR headset, and an external HDD, a microphone, and a webcam attached to almost all available ports of the whole system. I use the front ones occasionally for the SD card reader. So I'm pretty much maxed out.

Somewhere at Google, a DevOps engineer is mangoting his pants right now because YouTube's CDN went down. Glad I don't have that job!

A lot of brainwashed right-wingers spouting conspiracy theories about YouTube going down. Wow. Americans are a diffrent breed of stupid

@oracle Conspiracies were so much more fun in middle school, when it was the Alien's cloaking tech keeping Bigfoot and Nessie safe, and Mothman tried to warn us of infrastructure failures...

Changed my tires today. Because my father used a pneumatic drill last time I had a hard time loosening the screws. I had to literally stand on the wrench to have enough force to get over the friction.

@adiwan Eh, it's California. It's a local gag that you can surf in the morning, and ski in the afternoon. Or vice-versa.
-
@scribus I could do that too but the North Sea is toooo damn cold haha I don't know if the indoor skiing halls are open in Summer.... The mountains near me are not tall enough for snow all year around. I would need to drive to the Alps and it takes about 8 hours to get from where I live. But it isn't worth the time and gas.
-
@adiwan Ah, yeah, it's not a year-round snow, here. Maybe further north, yeah, but then the surf becomes a different story, lol.

The court documents and proceedings from the Trump campaign in the swing states is ABSOLUTELY entertaining. If we have to deal with this until December 14th, I will not not be complaining.

Almost gotta respect how many times CNN can publish "BREAKING: We Still Don't Know!" like being told on Wednesday that it could take until Friday or longer didn't already inform us of things like "We don't know yet, and it will take time to count."

@adiwan I suspect his talk about "being so embarrassed that he leaves the country" was code for "finding somewhere without extradition to the US to die in penury," but maybe that was just wishful thinking.
-
@scribus He has a memory of a goldfish and an ego as big as Jupiter. His stubbornness and rabid followers will pull him back. Presidency two: electric vote-a-loo. The Fluffle Puff show will repeat again. As much as I have no wish for that I am emotionally preparing it as soon as possible.

@adiwan I've said it before, but I'll believe everything because I can't believe any of it. XD

I think I might change my name to Cassandra. Hey, if Vincent can become Alice...!

@adiwan Well, it's less that I'm claiming to be 100% correct about events that have yet to pass, and more a satirical statement in reflection on the fact that people are surprised that Donald Trump is doing exactly what he said he'd do four years ago. Like, if it's that widely shocking when an asshole, who said he would be an asshole, is an asshole, then clearly "having seen it coming" MUST be among some kind of ~SpEcIaL pOwErS~ or whatever.

Welcome to the USA, where "counting all of the votes" is now considered by conservatives to be a radical idea.

@oracle except in Arizona, where Trump was behind on election night. We need to keep counting those. :eyeroll:

It's election day! And as your former headpony I demand you vote.

What a terrifying time to be a minority US American
Saturday, 31-Oct-20 17:45:49 UTC from web-
@thismightbeauser Don't worry. Compared to the rest of the world the US is a minority.
-
@adiwan I'm not sure what positive to take away from that being in Europe as a US minority.

Well it was early in the morning, I was tired, thought to myself, "I really hate myself, I'm going to upgrade the production servers from Ubuntu 18 to 20 LTS". Backups, who needs backups, I don't think the dependencies have changed in this version release.
Wednesday, 28-Oct-20 22:17:33 UTC from web-
@oracle I'm crazy with my "rolling release" Debian Experimental. Any time used *buntu and dist-upgraded it was always a hell and ended up in a complete re-install for the sake of saving time fixing each issue individually.
-
@adiwan I know what you mean, the LTS releases bundle too many programs together in my opinion. In my f-up, it was the upgrade to python 3.8 that caused most of my problems.
-
@oracle My upgrades aren't peachy either. Often I have to manually handle a less than fortunate set of dependencies due to conflicts or just unavailable packages. I don't mind that as I make a little game out of it and the frequency of those problems is not that bad. Strangely most of the time samba and python are the cause of an issue.
-
-
I thought I was a patient person, but damn. I'm going crazy waiting for my model 3 delivery.

Wednesday, 14-Oct-20 10:06:10 UTC from web-
@adiwan Have thought about it, actually.
-
@adiwan @scribus Not much of a point either, since we already have metal 3D printing in the shape of 4+ axis mills. You just put in a sufficiently big piece of metal and load the 3D model to the CNC software and let it work.
Mill of hot extrusion, metal printing will stay too dangerous and expensive for domestic use for at least a few decades I think. Most homes don't even have the space to fit the machinery or the wiring to run it. -
@nerthos Oops, *mill OR hot extrusion

My company laptop is so configured that it automatically locks the screen after 15 minutes of inactivity. There is no way to alter its behaviour because this was set by the admin via a policy. HOWEVER I used a AutoHotkey script that wiggles the mouse by one pixel back and forth once every 14 minutes.

I'm somewhat unhappy with Unity's HTML5 WebGL export. I have exported my game jam game https://adiwan.itch.io/lasso-loop-whiplash-webgl and it has ugly z-fighting and weird lighting issues at some overlapping geometry. I looked into everything I could, like adjusting the far and near plane or all shadow and lighting settings. I'm stumped. The compiled versions are fine.
Thursday, 08-Oct-20 14:23:23 UTC from web-
@adiwan Limitations of HTML 5, maybe?
-
@scribus There has to be some limitation beyond the obvious. I had to change the color range from linear (HDR) to gamma because it was a hard requirement for that. My developer friends are also stumped and cannot help me with educated guesses other than what I've already done.
