            • @nerthos Irrespective of anything Donald Trump or the Vote Leave whackjob party have actually said or done, many people who *support* said leaders/causes seem to be big fans. Notice how quickly their most vocal supporters take to suggesting jailing/killing dissenters?

            • @ceruleanspark How many of those are there though? I don't think there's many more of them than the other side has violent extremists, specially considering the riots and beatings the losing party has perpetrated. And there's also the fact that, while you being on the side that had been getting social victories lately, many people on the opposite side had been feeling genuinely silenced and discriminated against. As far as I've seen there's no real risk of anything nor any real fascism past internet nutjobs, and Trump seems intent on closing the ideological gap. I speak having lived an election that was identical to this one over here, and over the last year seen how none of the pre-election fearmongering came to pass, violence and fascism being carried out solely by the most fanatic and politically invested followers of the losing party. Plus as Hakui said yesterday, the average Trump voter didn't think "I want to disenfranchise minorities" when they voted, but rather (cont)

            • @ceruleanspark "I want a decent job to feed my family". You saw how colfax spent years without being able to land a decent job, and that wasn't a rare thing. And let's be honest, the most vocal Clinton supporters have been talking about "fixing" the issue by assassinating trump, and even at least one woman who voted for her was beaten for not wanting to take part in the protests/riots against Trump. I don't dismiss your concerns as irrational, but I do think it's not nearly as bad as many are making it seem. A whole lot of the most fascist sounding Trump supporters are just papayaposting right now to celebrate that they feel they have a voice again and no one with power will call them a bigot for it, much like the gay community did flamboyant rallies when they stopped being actively persecuted.

          • Think of it like this: In Politics, there are a lot unspoken tribal rules. There are things that, whilst not against any *actual* rules, simply aren't done, because they're considered "cheap" or "unsporting". It's like the real life equivalent of picking Oddjob in goldeneye, or showing up to casual MTG games with a $20000 netdeck. You didn't break any rules, but you're still kind of a jerk. Trump doesn't care about *any* of those preconceived notions of "fairness". To him, there are simply strong moves, and weak ones, and he always goes for the best one available to him, even if it makes him look like a jerk. This is why so many of his party contemporaries dislike him. After all, he doesn't care if his career in politics only lasts one term, or if he makes the republican party unelectable afterwards. He's got all his other companies and his millions of dollars to go back to.

            • @ceruleanspark When you're dealing with a player operating on this level, it's foolish to ever assume they're on "Your side". They're on their own side, and if it looks like they're on yours, it is because you achieving your goal furthers their own in some way. Having no compunctions about "betrayals" or anything of the sort, they will simply leave you wherever you cease being useful. I'm sure we'll see an example of this when some hard-right pundit says something awful in a public space, expecting Trump to have their back.
