Circus set up tent in the mall parking lot. Nothing ominous here. Disregard the cold breeze out of the west and gathering clouds.

@scribus Clown carcass in alley this morning, tyre tread on oversized shoe. This circus is afraid of me. I have seen its true face.

Well I'm trying to do a House-aligned playthrough of Fallout: New Vegas, but I very really truly hate him and the terrible asshole things he says :-/
about 2 months ago from web-
@scribus Interesting, he's my favourite faction to side with on the grounds of pragmatism, he's the only one with a plan (and the actual capability to make it happen) to make humanity go anywhere other than "we'll just be hobos in perpetuity"
He might not be incredibly likable, but in a survival scenario that's irrelevant. -
@nerthos Yeah, I want to not hate him - I mean, a retro-future spaceVegas? Hell, yeah!! He's not even that unlikable, there's a wry sort of amusement to his bearing. But he's too egocentric; he's not preserving humanity, he's feeding his ego and seeking to create a thrallhood underclass to prop HIM up. Ultimately, I don't consider him sufficiently distinct from Caesar. Both cling to old-world ideals and play up some fantasy of the "inevitability" of "their" power. So, I kill him, take his city, and in my mind carry on with developing the space plans in a little more cooperative, ground-up fashion. (Though in all honesty a spacefaring future would be just as hellish as the vaults so iunno w/e i guess lol) Also I make The King governor or something :p
-
@scribus That all sounds good until you factor in the kind of human resource you're dealing with in Fallout. Ironically the tv show is the best illustration of this, with the main character trying to behave like a civilized person and consistently getting banana'd by everyone.
House's narcissistic approach is a necessity in the world he's operating, without the army of robots forcing the wastelanders to work at gunpoint nothing will get done (example: they're still living in shacks near 200 years after the war)
Plus, he has civilized some factions already, so it's not like he won't uplift the competent and decent wastelanders into better positions. He has to do that for any space settling plan to work, since good people are needed to populate those colonies.
Sometimes, a competent megalomaniac is the only option that can get the job done.

I think it's probably time to be honest about this: I have neither the time, nor the motivation to work on this place anymore. There's stuff going on in my personal life I'd rather not get into, so in short: I'm probably going to finally turn this place off in the next few months. If you're interested in taking ownership, let me know, but know that I'd only be comfortable handing it off to someone I know and trust, rather than any rando that shows up.

@ceruleanspark Thanks for all the memories, this site was a core part of my adolescence. Found it early in high school right as I was becoming my own self and still think fondly of it even if I haven't regularly used it in a decade. It's always been nice to pop in and see familiar names. If anyone wants to keep up post RDN my Steam and FB links are in my profile. I wish everyone the best in life!
-
@ceruleanspark Thanks for all the hard work over the years. This was a fun place to hang out when I was but a friendless kiddo dealing with middle school angst- don't know how I could have stood it without. Hope all will be well; if not now, then in the future.
-
@ceruleanspark Thanks for keeping it up for so long. I don't post often, but I check in now and then. Made all my first fedifriends over here and I'm thankful it has lasted this long. Gonna miss everypony.

Did anybody get to see the recent aurorae?
about 6 months ago from web-
@awl Envy, lol. They were supposedly vivible from about an hour away from my house, but I didn't trust that I would be the only one making the drive, kinda expected a horde of headlights to drown it out :-/
-
@scribus yeah you’re far enough down south people would lose their banana over it. I had seen them off the north shore last two years living in the car.

@scribus AURORA BORABALIS?

I thought this site was dead for the last 6 months cause I kept getting this error. I tried different browsers and devices and same thing but today it finally worked. Anyone else have this issue? http://rainbowdash.net/attachment/876377
Thursday, 22-Jun-23 02:11:30 UTC from web-
@macpony55 I always get this with almost any browser I use. Only way I can get it to load conisistently is by using this macos app called fluid. Other than that it’s almost inaccessible for me lol. I don’t mind though, adds to the charm :)

@macpony55 Concerning. Looking into it

@thelastgherkin Well met.... Lol

OK.... Tears of the Kingdom... What does "tears" refer to? Is it the liquid coming out of the eyes (for example while crying) or is it the edge of two pieces of a material/object that has been ripped apart (for example tearing a piece of paper in two pieces)?
Friday, 12-May-23 13:18:20 UTC from web-
@thelastgherkin Aaah... So it is not derived from the German word "Tier" (plural "Tiere"), which means "animal".
-
@adiwan Wait wait, is Link turning into a wolf again?
-
@scribus Good lord I wish, the previous game indirectly mentioned the events of Twilight Princess exactly one time and that seems to be the only acknowledgment Nintendo is willing to give that game.

So you know how they've got those nigh-pornographic art models with the poseable skeletons and all that jazz? Do they make them in non-human? Looking for a mouse or a rat... uh, also non-lewd. I don't need a sexy mouse. Not yet....
Saturday, 27-Mar-21 20:26:28 UTC from web-
@adiwan I dunno, lol. This is really probably just Perfectionism stepping on Productivity's toes. Mostly I just was looking for a reliable way to check if something I would write would be physically plausible. But I've already taken pages of notes on "The Secret of NIMH" and other cartoons and actual live animal footage, so I probably don't *need* anything at all.
-
@thelastgherkin Dude I've seen that before! And it is a good idea... um, in the context of trying to make an anatomical/biomechanical model. heh
-
@scribus I think it's cheaper to buy a real mouse and not bother trying to replicate the skeleton in order to see if a pose is even possible. Yeah... It'd bite back but still cheaper time-wise and financially. I don't think pet shops allow anybody willy-nilly to grab a mouse and contort it.

My own personal Mandela Effect is that I thought the N64 was code-named Dolphin, and the Triforce were color-coded RGB. (That was the grapepost I was after, thanks for waiting)

Usually I put a book series in the shelf from right to left in ascending order. However these double-volume books have the annoying thing that the two volume numbers are side by side. So Right now the shelf looks like this: 7 + 8, 5 + 6, 3 + 4, 2 + 1. I think I'm the only one (member of the left-to-right-reading society) putting books in "reverse" order.
