Speaking of which, don't use the word "retarded" as a pejorative here in the future.
Friday, 25-Mar-16 01:00:26 UTC from web -
Banning a word like "retarded" isn't in any way an infringement on free speech, it's just refusing to host your insensitive garbage

Yeah but I bet if someone called you a neckbeard you'd be bawling about your feelings huh

18 is such an arbitrary number to decide someone's an adult. So is 21. What's up with that?????
Thursday, 24-Mar-16 17:57:17 UTC from web-
@tiffany @mrmattimation the problem is that everyone grows at a different rate
-
@taknamay true, but honestly from my own experience 18 would be the most ideal guideline
-
@tiffany I know where I am 18 is usually the age you're leaving high school and starting college, so while I don't think that's the deciding factor it does mean that the age of adulthood coincides with that big transition period pretty effectively. But it's like some of the replies to Matt's post have already said, it's really just an arbitrary number and not everyone grows at the same pace.

I don't think I ever posted this picture, it was taken nigh a month ago on Lake Anne. In the middle of the lake there was a coyote or wild dog just walking out there, sniffing the ice once in a while, sitting once in a while. I watched it for five minutes and left with it still out there, for whatever reason. http://rainbowdash.net/url/835635

Finally had some time to myself just to doodle, pretty happy with it for once. Pretty sure Marceline's anatomy needs work, but it seems passable. http://pny.lv/0auxd

@scoot Her left arm does seem a bit too far behind her, but that might just be me being picky. They're really cute doodles, great faces in particular.

Hey GNU social peeps, can I please get all of the Donald Trump supporters to explain what a "cuck" is and where the term comes from
Wednesday, 23-Mar-16 00:38:25 UTC from web-
@ii I've seen this word get thrown around a lot by internet conservatives, judging from context my read on it is it's their flavour-of-the-week pejorative for anyone who holds progressive or inclusive beliefs.
-
@narwhal I've also seen it used on the *chans as a general purpose insult. Since 'batcave' and 'autist' are passé these days.
-
@ii I avoid the chans altogether, but it doesn't surprise me that terms like "cuck" are in vogue there.

Speaking of Boris, they apparently just recently released another collaboration with Merzbow, which I might end up checking out, but they put out so many albums in general that it's hard to keep up. I think the last record of theirs that I fully listened to was Noise back in 2014.

I don't take good photos. I don't take poor photos well. I don't even take very many photos. I wonder if that's why I want to share them when I do take them?
-
@scribus Your restrictions on your photo taking habits could imbue meaning onto the photos you do take, or at least the ones you choose to publish. The conscious decision to release it implies an artistic need behind them.
-
@narwhal Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Like, if I think it's worth taking a picture of, right?
-
@scribus Yeah, and art ipso facto isn't necessarily a bad thing
-
-
Boris are another band who have veered into territory that could be considered "metal" on some of their records, but categorizing them in general is kind of impossible because of how much their sound has changed over the years.

@nerthos That seems to be a popular name for cats.
-
@narwhal I thought of it because it's a black, fluffy cat with greyish hair behind the ears, and clearly male facial features.
-
@nerthos I named my cat Prince after Le Petit Prince, mostly because it's a book and character I like but also because my cat's personality as a kitten matched that of said character
-

I find Iron Maiden's music really boring but I have to respect the band members. One of their phrases I saw the other day: "We wanted to be musicians, not drugaddicts"

@tiffany I have money
-
@critialcloudkicker I have a family to feed
-
@tiffany Remember: As cliche as it is, context is crucial when critiquing media. A comparable database of tropes and archetypes will identify storytelling beats but won't actually articulate any effective use of craft or storytelling tools outside of it. It's functionally the same as pointing out that two characters from different series both wore red shirts at some point.

daredevil season 2 is better than the first but it's still not jessica jones
Monday, 21-Mar-16 19:44:11 UTC from web-
@tiffany That's fair. Jessica Jones is more of My Kind Of Show too so I can relate to that. I guess I was just trying to highlight my issue with the "x is good, but it's no y" train of thought, though I'm sure you're already aware of this.
-
@narwhal it didn't occur to me then and there but I don't try to compare shows in exactly that fashion
-
@tiffany I mean, comparing shows is great and can give you a greater understanding of both, but it's also important to take the respective goals and priorities of both into account. Often times two shows in with the same loose genre labels can be very different from one another!

I want a Hollywood Evangelion movie adaptation that is every part as cerebral and even more depressing than the anime, but is marketed as a regular funtimes highfives Summer blockbuster.
Monday, 21-Mar-16 10:14:57 UTC from web-
@narwhal We'd probably watch it for very similar reasons then
-
@critialcloudkicker I'd then go home and mope about why we can't have nice things
-
@narwhal I'd laugh like Bender during and after that movie :)
-
-
Which is to say I'd bitterly watch it if only to disparage the forces that made such a movie exist in the first place
