Your opinions on: music with sound effects.
Tuesday, 29-Mar-16 16:12:06 UTC from web-
@mrmattimation So traditionally non-musical samples in otherwise musical recordings? Yeah I'm fine with that. I don't think it'll be used effectively or meaningfully in every instance, but in lots of cases fully crafting a song is more than just "play these notes on these instruments" so I think there's a place for the kinds of sounds you're referring to in both popular and niche music.
-
@narwhal I hate when I'm driving along and a song has sirens, though.
-
@scribus Yeah, I can understand the annoyance there. Lots of songs don't translate well to a car listening environment.

I decided to start Neon Genesis Evangelion and holy apple, I know what I'm going to watch tomorrow

@tiffany He's the hero Gotham City needs, but not the one it deserves right now.

@thelastgherkin 1 per cent represent

@tiffany Is it though? It basically embodies the same space as the same films it's ostensibly parodying, it just turns and WINKS at the audience every chance it can get too.

@mushi I recently finished ERASED, I enjoyed it but its sense of storytelling really fell apart later in. Being a thriller meant it had to rely on a specific tonal balance throughout its duration that it just couldn't maintain as consistently in its later episodes to stay convincingly interesting for me to watch.

I've been watching a lot of anime recently, so here's some !art http://pny.lv/0b9o8

@scoot I have it on my backlog, so i imagine one of these days I'll eventually get around to it. I have seen FLCL though, which is a classic and definitely one of my favourites.
-
@narwhal It's worth a watch, at least for Series 1. Series 2 has two or three really amazing episodes in it. I'd been putting off FLCL, but wow I was blown away by it. I'll have to watch it again to try and catch some of the details I missed due to the pace of it, but it was a very fun ride. I'm tempted to draw Haruko, but its getting late
-
@scoot If I'm not watching too much during this spring season of anime I'll give series 1 of Nisekoi a whirl, and let you know what I think afterwards.

later Flobots is really good when they're not being political

Why the hell am I not watching kung fu movies right now!?
Sunday, 27-Mar-16 07:12:06 UTC from web-
@scribus I'd say it's kind of a kung-fu thriller, I guess? Kung-Fu Dunk is more of a really campy comedic b-movie kung-fu film, it's not a "good" film by any traditional or standard metrics but gosh is it a really fun time.
-
@narwhal Kung fu movies are their best when they're not good!

@scribus I like the way you think

apple, nearly everything about wine culture is cynical and sometimes just elitist.
Sunday, 27-Mar-16 02:22:43 UTC from web-
@metaltao Over here wine is more of a traditional/family drink rather than an elite thing. Of course there are some really good wines produced locally, wine expositions and all, but the big majority of people who drink it are either the cheap wine drunks, or mid-to-old people who drink it at the table with food. You know the kind that always have a cup of wine with lunch and dinner?
-
@metaltao Doing fine, went to a birthday party yesterday, just relaxing and chatting today.
-
@nerthos living in Italy, in which wine is treated in the exact same way, is what made me appreciate wine in the first place, and not drink it to get drunk either.

@redenchilada Oh yeah for sure, I've had a handful of pleasant conversations with federated users in the past. My reply earlier was more of a joking generalization than any kind of axiom.

As a general rule I tend to find the people who are most vehement about being entitled to free speech are usually the ones with nothing intelligent to say.
Friday, 10-Jan-14 10:27:37 UTC from web -
Alright LISTEN UP BOZOS, CAUSE I'M ONLY GONNA SAY THIS ONCE: Being offensive for the sake of being offensive isn't funny. I know that I am the last guy that you wanna hear that from, but it's true. It's forgivable if offensive words just kind of slip out from time to time. But using words like "retarded" in every other sentence specifically because people do not like you saying it is super duper crappy. It's like what a four year old does when they're told not to say "no" and proceed to repeat it over and over and over again just for the attention.
Friday, 25-Mar-16 00:50:52 UTC from web-
@critialcloudkicker You appear to me to be a pretty rational / pragmatic type of person. Try not to over-think everything. Just be yourself. ;-) This is no criticism of you,at all.
-
@mrmattimation I've always been a fan of "mook."
-
@pennyfortheguy Kinda hard not to over-think everything when the people you're working with are either 100% doing that or are asking you critical pragmatic questions because of it. But thanks :) ... I should probably try again to find a debate-team or something and drag a few of my clients into it, they'd probably like it too :) ( since I figure they do this kinda stuff for 'sport' )

I am at least partially responsible for the cherryty things that some of the regulars use, and for that I do apologize. I actively championed assholey behavior in the name of comedy like an idiot and I think that rubbed off on some people.
Friday, 25-Mar-16 01:04:07 UTC from web-
@mrmattimation It's alright, I've said some things here in the past I'm not proud of either. We've both grown since and are more responsible with our comedy these days.

free speech is a myth, by the way. The first amendment only promises that the government can't sensor you, and even then there are legal caveats. You don't have the right to force people to listen to your garbage

@rarity That's probably a really overlooked right to begin with. Having a soldier with a gun showing up forcing your silence in the modern western world is unthinkable.

Do you understand WHY freedom of speech is not only in the constitution, but is the very first amendment?
