@carcinopony Gotcha. But even so, linear equations can be handy enough for modelling simple everyday stuff. Example: Let's say you have $500 saved up, and you also have a part time job that nets you $200 a week. How much money will you have in a month? Two months? Using your knowledge of linear equations, you can set your wealth to be W(x) = 500 + 200x where x is number of weeks worked, and thus calculate your wealth at any point in time (x = 4 for one month, x = 8 for two months).

@foxox This is very true. I guess what I was getting at was, it sounded like @carcinopony was talking about linear equations in an introductory context, i.e. hasn't been introduced to linear algebra yet. I may be wrong though.

@foxox Linear algebra and linear equations are really different. Lin Alg is like.. matrices and vectors. Linear equations are 1st order polynomials.

Here's a good brain exercise for some bronies: Rainbow Dash flies horizontally at a constant speed of 10 m/s. At t = 0, she begins to flap her wings harder, giving her a constant horizontal acceleration of 8 m/s^2. After how many seconds will she reach Mach 1, producing a Sonic Rainboom? Assume Mach 1 is 330 m/s; ignore all drag effects.

@flaxx Well, the problem was more having my girlfriend for sleepovers while my parents were out... hahaha. But yes. I typically handle any disagreement with my parents in a similar manner.

@starlightbolt Yeah, I'm not really sure how my parents will respond to the whole MLP thing. I tend to handle these things maturely enough though. I remember when I got a girlfriend, I was at the dinner table with my parents and I was all, "YEAH, WHATCHA GONNA DO ABOUT IT? NOTHING."
