  2. @nightwillow dangit I always miss your announcements. every single time I see one I'm about to say "sure! I'll head over, not doing anything at the moment" only to find out it's like 12 hours old at least.

  3. I mean there are like 4 LARP groups here. No offence but I am pretty much scraping the bottom of the barrel here.

  4. Almost done waiting at a gaming con... How I manage to not fit in and feel alienated among a group stereotyped to be outcasts and socially awkward is beyond me. I came here to try to make some friends, but nobody I talk to seems to actually want to be in any sort of conversation with me. I feel really lonely now...

  5. So I've been thinking about the statement: "saying everyone is special is just another way of saying nobody is special" and for the longest time I used to believe that statement. then while watching some old clips of mister rogers, I realized the subtle difference: "nobody's special" just levels the playing field "everyone is special" emphasizes equality via mutual respect. the former is a sort of begrudging equality. the latter is equality because you recognize and respect the other person.

  9. That feel when you hear your roommate get up earlier than they said they would and you realize you won't be able to watch the new episode as it airs :(

  10. @mrn4rmn4rm 1954 The Clovers: "The rotten mangoesers ball." I'm pretty sure they had the lack of subtlety down as well.

  11. @mrn4rmn4rm hows it feel to learn that old people aren't offended by how perverted this generation is, they are just annoyed at how tame it has become.

  12. @cabal no he didn't... it's right there...

  13. and now, for my own amusement, I will now post a list of dirty song titles... from the 30's 40's and 50's. Bo Carter: "Please Warm my Weiner", "Banana in your Fruit Basket" The Toppers: "Baby Let Me Bang Your Box" Blind Boy Fuller: "Sweet Honey Hole" "I Want Some of Your Pie" "What's That Smalls like Fish" "get your ya ya's out" Harry Roy & His Orchestra "My Girl's cherriesy" Dinah Washington "Big Long Slidin' Thing" Bull Moose Jackson: "Big Ten Inch" The Swallows: "It Ain't The Meat (It's The Motion)" what can we conclude from this? your grandparents and great grandparents were perverted on a levl you young'uns can't even begin to comprehend.

  16. @roygbiv how DARE they express affections in a discreet, tame manner where someone might conceivably see them if the someone really examines and analyzes them closely? also, in the comments, "culture of death." is a term I heard a LOT in my christian high school.

  17. @ceruleanspark it's a retcon sort of thing. as soon as it becomes overwhelming public opinion that some part of their belief system is bigotry, the majority of the followers of that belief, usually within a generation, will act as if they always felt that way since the very beginning, because they will believe so. the human brain is a fickle structure. one could say it has an ego all its own

Wednesday, 31-Aug-11 15:47:39 UTC from web in context
  18. @ceruleanspark like I said, belief system. they don't want to admit it, but their beliefs HAVE changed over time.

Wednesday, 31-Aug-11 15:45:15 UTC from web in context
  19. @ceruleanspark well, in the united states, where the majority of citizens subscribe to a belief system that expressly forbids it, it pretty much is considered as such. and proponents are working the angle that passing it is simply so the beliefs of one group won't deny rights to people who do not believe that.

  20. it bugs me when people mact like passing gay rights is imposing secular morals onto them. it's like a doorway more than anything else. when opened, passage through the door is voluntary. you can choose not to if you do not wish to or if it just isn't your thing. when closed, it is mandatory that nobody can pass through.

  21. tomorrow I have about 5 hours of working on a windows vista machine that has probably not had a single program uninstalled since it was bought back when vista was new. It has 3 different antivirus services running on it at the same time, all of which haven't been updated since 2007. It has a tendency to restart on it's own and is painfully slow, so I'm guessing the whole process is gonna be about 5 hours. Celestia help me. but hey, at least I'll be getting paid well for it (no, I don't charge for time spent waiting around for a process to complete like defragmenting.)

  26. can we all agree that since we are all watching a show about marshmallow ponies that it is pointless to hate any fan subcommunity? I mean, come on, it's rather pointless to act like ponychan is nothing but whiney losers or FiM chan is nothing but perverts when honestly, they are my little pony websites. neither will ever be cooler than the other. it's an incredibly nerdy thing that we like the show, not that it's a bad thing to be that nerdy. The most harmful thing to a fandom is fans thinking the fandom needs to be saved form itself.
