  1. After years of running this place, I thought I’d seen every way a Linux machine could collapse, but once again, my work has shown me another level of “how did this even happen”. I have a machine at work which is suddenly incapable of any function involving cryptography, including but not limited to: allowing SSH access and serving pages over HTTPS

  10. @mrmattimation It's worth noting that humans can only actually see like, 5 moving things at once, tops, before the brain starts employing various shortcuts to reduce processing time.

  11. @ceruleanspark you all probably think I’m being facetious, but this is more or less literally how I met my boyfriend.

  12. @scribus it might be on...TBS? Is that a channel? I think they have the US rights. You need to give the protagonist an episode or so to bed in, but after that, it’s a fun show. The villain is voiced by David Tennant

  22. @awl mind you, whoever put us on the block list that lists us as being a “pro-nazi/alt-right” space has clearly never been to the site or read the rules. Not have they, I might add attempted to communicate with me.

  23. @awl I love that at least one of the block lists has us listed as being blocked for “oppressive Fluffle Puffposting”

  24. For the people who care about federation (Probably just @nerthos and @awl) I have no idea why it isn’t working. This is actually a new server, at a new hosting provider and a functionally fresh install of RDN’s version of statusnet. So unless DigitalOcean, Cloudflare, or the other instances themselves are blocking us (or them), there’s no particular reason why it *shouldn’t* work.

  25. @scribus They’re the end result of a 40 year campaign by what is essentially state run media (or to be more accurate, a media run state) to overturn the previous referendum we had on joining the EU in the first place. Turns out it’s really easy to gaslight a populace when you spend decades ensuring they’ll never have the tools required to verify your claims.

  27. @tiff You want hot or cold coke?

about 7 months ago from web in context
  28. @awl No, probably not. I was under the impression that only broke if you changed the site's name or URL schema. We've moved a bunch of times before without it breaking before.
