Doge is one of the few internet memes I haven't quite gotten sick of yet. Although with enough time I'm sure the internet will ruin it.

@xeleanorxrigbyx I think the reason it survived is because it's really, really simple and can be easily modified to fit any theme. Plus people like cute animals.
-
@nerthos True. Shiba Inus are freaking adorable.
-
@xeleanorxrigbyx Not nearly as great as Welsh Corgis though.
-
@theyurityphoon Oh gosh I love corgis. I think a lot of that comes from Cowboy Bebop too.
-
@xeleanorxrigbyx I wouldn't mind petting one.
-
@theyurityphoon Huskies top tier
-
@xeleanorxrigbyx Ein's great, and initially started my love for Corgis in the first place.
-
@nerthos German Shepards for the win.
-
@nerthos Corgis > Huskies > German Shepherds > everything else.
-
@xeleanorxrigbyx @theyurityphoon Ein best corgi
-
@xeleanorxrigbyx German Shepards are awesome dogs as long as you live alone and relatively away from people. They fixate on one or a few persons and are incredibly annoying to anyone who isn't one of them. They can bark for /hours/ straight to the neighbors.
-
@nerthos if they're trained right, they won't.
-
@nerthos Fun story (if my birth father is to be believed) apparently I was partially raised by one. They had a huge GSD named Bear that would babysit me when I was a baby.
-
@theyurityphoon IMO trained dogs are overkill if you want them for company.
-
@nerthos Our German Shepherd, Misha, was just fine as a companion, protected us kids, still acted as a pet but also as a great watchdog. Fully trained in German and would only bark at people who entered our property.
-
@xeleanorxrigbyx Well the dog my parents had when I was little was half german shepard, and she would act as basically a mother to me and my cousin (cousin is a month older than me and we were always close), following me around the house, sharing bread, and guarding me. Once my parents were next door talking to my godmother who was holding me, her phone rang and she went inside, and the dog looked at my parents like "She's stealing the child!" and followed my godmother inside and wouldn't let her off her sight. So yeah, your story is probably true.
-
@nerthos Sounds pretty similar. On the flip side, I've dealt with "jerk" GSDs. My dad had one that was a police dog, and he was very good at his job. He was not however, family friendly. He liked my dad and that was it. But I suppose that's to be expected.
-
@theyurityphoon Fully trained in German? Wow! I've never even met a dog who could speak English!
RedEnchilada (notice the lack of a space) likes this. -
@thelastgherkin She was trained to only respond to German commands. If you said "stop" she wouldn't give half a damn.
-
@xeleanorxrigbyx My parents own two houses, one of which is under construction to eventually move across the street; on the house next to it there's a german shepard who will not stop barking whenever someone is in my house. Another neighbor used to have two, one of which would constantly fight with my dad's dogs. It'd start running along the fence in front of my house barking, and my dad's dogs would do the same on the other dog's house. That lasted until the german shepard got too angy and tried to slip her head under my house's front gate, got stuck, the biggest of my dogs grabbed her by the neck, and the other three ripped at it. It survived with half an ear and looked like a muslim with all the bandages for some weeks.
-
@nerthos Awww, poor dog. I think a lot of it is training, and of course up to the individual dog. My boyfriend's parents have two pitbulls and they are the sweetest things ever.
-
@theyurityphoon that's not the joke
-
@thelastgherkin I was aware of the joke.
-
@xeleanorxrigbyx Yeah, it depends on the personality and training, though some races have predispositions to certain types of behavior due to selective breeding focused on making them better in a particular area.
-
@nerthos Of course. Every animal is different Except for cats. I think all of those are jerks.
-
@xeleanorxrigbyx Hahaha, cats are different from other animals in that they can have any kind of personality but they'll always be independent. You have cuddly cats, playful cats, angry cats, but they all will retain their independence. They also handle emotions exactly like humans. All those things make them my favourite pets.
-
@nerthos My biggest problem is that any of the cats I've had will misbehave, and just not care when I yell at them. I think there was also a recent study that basically said that cats know their names and know a lot of commands but just don't care.
-
@xeleanorxrigbyx Talking/yelling at a cat doesn't work if the cat doesn't want it to work. They do react strongly to emotions though, they'll see how you feel and wether you're a threat or not and react acordingly. There's a couple tricks to put them in place though, like licking their heads, grabbing them by the neck, and biting them in particular places. The ones I have now aren't generally a problem, except for one of them ocasionally puking and another one having a perfect timing for doing her "stuff" whenever food is served.
-
@nerthos Ours like to jump on the counter, which tracks litter all over the place which I don't like when making food. One of the cats will eat himself into a coma if I let him: so we give them food once a day. We have to desperate the two of them or he'll eat all of the other cat's food.
-
@nerthos Can't say I plan on licking or biting my cats though.
-
@xeleanorxrigbyx Yeah, the cat that pukes does the same thing about food. Rationing her food and giving her medicine once in a while solves the issue though.
-
@nerthos Also it drives me up a wall because they know they're being bad. They'll look at me and as soon as I stand up or move they take off running. Little jerks.
-
@xeleanorxrigbyx My mother always yells at me when I do that hehe
-
@nerthos Half the time I don't even have to get up. They sit on the counter and wait for me to notice and as soon as I make eye contact they jump down and run as fast as they can into another room. They mock me.
-
@xeleanorxrigbyx They're smart. /Really/ smart. Mine don't tend to run, though two of my dad's dogs do and I completely run out of patience. They were smart enough to stop making holes in the fence and running off when I swore to kill them if they kept at it during an outburst so right now they're relatively calm.
-
@xeleanorxrigbyx They probably feel they're the owners of the place. One of mine does that to my mom but not to me, since I let her sleep on a couple places she likes but my mom wants no cats on.
-
@nerthos Oh yes, they're very smart. At the same time, quite dumb sometimes. Running into things and falling off stuff. They're idiots, but they're my little idiots.
-
@nerthos Yeah, I know the one cat that would eat himself into a coma wasn't treated well before we got him (he grew up with dogs that would steal his food, hence the frenzied eating). The other one was a stray that just invited himself in and stayed. Who knows what his habits were.
-
@xeleanorxrigbyx I have three, the first one was brought as a kitten by my dad from his workplace as a birthday gift for my mom but ended up spending most of the time with me; the second one followed my dad to his car one night and was fairly starved, according to the vet she used to live in a house; and the third one was the mother of the first, lived at my dad's factory until there was a change of ownership and the new manager told my dad to take her away or they'd kill her. (Apparently the manager was afraid of cats)
-
@nerthos Odd. Heard of cat allergies, but not cat phobia. Guess there's a phobia for everything!
-
@xeleanorxrigbyx My godmother fears cats. From what I've heard it's due to a cat breaking into her room while she was sleeping when she was a kid and scaring her kiwiless.
-
@nerthos I shouldn't laugh, but I just pictured her sitting up and there's a cat on the edge of the bed with one finger (paw finger?) to it's lips and a switchblade in the other hand.
RDN's Lucifer likes this. -
@xeleanorxrigbyx Haha, don't worry, she's become kind of a jerk with age and I've been mantaining a tense peace with her for years now so you can poke all the fun you like at her.
-
@xeleanorxrigbyx According to my mother what happened was that the cat entered the room through the window, saw itself on the mirror, and started fighting itself and hissing, which caused her to wake up and see the cat first thing. Damn hilarious.
-
@nerthos Man, that's got to be a rough phobia. Cats are everywhere. The internet must be like a field of land mines.
-
@xeleanorxrigbyx Well there's at least eight cats in this street alone. I'd say 10 or more.
-
@nerthos oh god they're forming a gang.
-
@xeleanorxrigbyx Just wait until you walk into a dark alley and all you see is an entire clustermangoes of cats all wearing leather jackets and snapping their fingers.
xeleanorxrigbyx likes this. -
@xeleanorxrigbyx Haha that'd be nice. I'll make some equipment for my cats so they become leaders. I formed a gang on here the other day !RDNTB so I don't see why they couldn't.
-
@nerthos I have a couple strays that live in my apt complex that I'll send over. I'm sure they'll get something going.
-
@xeleanorxrigbyx Let's do this! Fight crime with worse but cuter cat crime.
-
@nerthos No one will suspect a thing.
-
@xeleanorxrigbyx Feline crime kingpins all around.

@nerthos Putting out little cat hits, with their little cat weapons and cat mobster style stuff.

-
@nerthos There's actually a webcomic that I read that's about cat mobsters. It's actually awesome, so now I'm picturing something like that.
-
@xeleanorxrigbyx How is it called? I'd love to read that.
-
@nerthos http://www.lackadaisycats.com/comic.php
Her art style is fantastic. She doesn't update that often though. :( -
@xeleanorxrigbyx Whoa, it's impressive. It compensates any sort of delay.
-
@xeleanorxrigbyx That is a really awesome style
-
@mastertdi Oh my God you weren't kidding
-
@xeleanorxrigbyx I'm gonna have to bookmark this and read it later.

@mastertdi tried to make a weeaboo version of "that's the pot calling the kettle black"
-
@xeleanorxrigbyx It's impressive how we ended up on a webcomic about cat mobsters from a conversation that started in doge.
-
@theyurityphoon But Ross
-
@nerthos On a website sorta about ponies.
-
