            @northernnarwhal the bad part is that we have to do it elemantary school style because they cut the funding to latin, not enough people. the teacher gets a textbook and we get packets of the pages copied from the text book :b

                  @purplebear I've been really enjoying Plato's works, especially this little piece of prose on music: "Η μουσική είναι ένας ηθικός νόμος. Δίνει ψυχή στο σύμπαν ,φτερά στο νου , πτήση στη φαντασία , και γοητεία και ευθυμία στη ζωή και τα πάντα." Translated, it means "Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything."

                      @purplebear His dialogues are all really interesting as well. Specifically I've recently been reading The Republic, and he makes interesting points on how in an ideal society doesn't need art as art is merely an imitation of reality, and therefore an inferior distraction. However, it's ironic because it's being told through a dramatic dialogue, which in itself is a work of art. One of Plato's students, Aristotle, actually touches upon this in one of his works and explains how art in itself can used a form of catharsis from reality ("catharsis" actually coming from the Greek κάθαρσις meaning "purification"). All really interesting stuff.

                          @purplebear I dunno, I have a book for it that I read from. It's pretty long though (typical of many of Plato's works) so I'd only recommend it if you have lots of time to kill. Great read though, really interesting.
