The difference is The Avalanches weren't making cheap internet mashups to capitalize on the success of fads, their record had genuine turntabilism and plunderphonics with over 3500 vinyl samples.

@nethernarwhal You realise I wasn't comparing them right
-
@nethernarwhal You sir, have fanboyed to hard. Hush now quiet now!
-
@monstertdi Tiffany what have you done
-
@spoops I broke him
-
@monstertdi why would you do that
-
@spoops I wanted to fit in
-
@monstertdi but
-
@spoops what
-
@monstertdi but that's mean
-
@monstertdi You literally used a simile
-
@nethernarwhal ...where?
-
@potatao You can't silence me with horse memes.
-
@monstertdi Oh wait, not a simile. I coulda sworn you said "like". Anyway, a comparison nonetheless http://rainbowdash.net/notice/3696440
-
@nethernarwhal Not really. Bananas look like dicks but I'm not gonna compare the amount of potassium in them.
RDN's Lucifer and awlxaĺan like this. -
@monstertdi Not the point, you're comparing how they look.
-
@nethernarwhal One just reminds me of the other. That's it.
-
@nethernarwhal Come on tyler you're being the angry music guy again
-
@monstertdi It was phrased like a comparison, and if you weren't comparing them you wouldn't have included that last part
-
@righteousnarwhal yes i know
-
@nethernarwhal No jokes allowed on the internet
-
@monstertdi "x is similar to y, which is an insult to y" seems like a comparative joke to me
-
@nethernarwhal Whatever it "seemed" like, I don't think that Linkin Park are comparable to The Avalanches. One triggered my brain into remembering the other.
-
@righteousnarwhal kekekek
-
@righteousnarwhal top kekkk
-
@monstertdi Except the definition comparable is to be able to be likened to another, in which case you've done so subconsciously and therefore proven the comparison.
-
@monstertdi Your premisses don't verify your conclusion in the argument you're presenting
-
@nethernarwhal At the utmost basic level I found them comparable, yes, but only because one tiny little similarity that isn't reflective of either of the groups' abilities as a whole tipped me off. I might say that Ellie Goulding reminds me of Steam Powered Giraffe because both have a song with the word "fire" in, but that doesn't say kiwi about how I'd rate one compared to the other.
-
@monstertdi The bottom line is that if you look both at how you phrased your comment as well as the definitions of the words in context you wouldn't have even made the comment itself if they weren't intrinsically comparable. Regardless of how comparable they are, which is why I responded in the first place (they're not), the point is you DID compare them to some pedigree and/or extent, which you previously denied. You can't define something as a premises then present it as null in your conclusion, that's a logical fallacy.
-
@nethernarwhal It is heresy! Burn the Straw Man!
-
@potatao No one's pulling a straw man, just a fallacy of invalid logic
-
@nethernarwhal He made a weak argument. It is the straw man. Though, I wasn't talking about the devious use of straw man. ... My mind just went blank...
-
@nethernarwhal I wasn't the quality of the music though.
-
@monstertdi wasn't comparing*
-
@potatao It's alright
-
@monstertdi It was implied
-
@nethernarwhal Well that's on you, not me.
-
@monstertdi No, if you literally just say that one "reminds" you of the other it's pretty safe to infer you're referring to them musically, since no other field was presented.
-
@nethernarwhal I didn't expect my meaningless comment to be analysed with a fine-tooth comb.
-
@monstertdi Well when you make a false claim and you're not being facetious/tongue in cheek or in some sort of jest I will try to be as objective as possible.
-
@nethernarwhal What my brain made me think of is a false claim okay then
-
@monstertdi There, Babby's First Semantics. Good talk.
