Who can't like Goldeneye really, I mean, "I'm invincible"?? Classic.

@awles I also thought the 2006 Casino Royale was a well constructed espionage thriller, and probably my favourite articulation of the James Bond character.
-
@northernnarwhal oh yeah, definitely. Far as Bond films go Goldeneye got me somewhat into them and that was because of the n64 game.

@awles That was one of the few really well received games based on a film too, which is pretty neat. I doubt we'll ever get a well received film based on a game though, for a number of reasons.
-
@northernnarwhal the media is yet too young for that to be pulled off at the same height as those films based off of books.

@awles I was also thinking about a lot of the implicit storytelling mechanics of games, but yeah the perception of games as public media objects is an important factor here.
-
@northernnarwhal hmm, and because of the accessibility to games makes those fans a bit more adamant about how their mythos or story is supposed to advance, making a truly creative film based off of it more prone to scrutiny.

@awles Yeah, gamers tend to lionize the specific database type details of the narrative construction in games that is generally unimportant in the wider context of artistic storytelling, so this would alienate both potential future audiences and artists alike.
-
@northernnarwhal or just make sequels more of a joke like the Resident Evil films.

@northernnarwhal I could swear there's been at least one... Maybe I'm thinking Scott Pilgrim, though. That one was video gamey, anyway.
-
@scribus There's been a pretty good game adaptation of Scott Pilgrim, but the film (as excellent as it is) is technically a graphic novel adaptation.
-
@northernnarwhal Yeah, but in a video gamey way. I'm probably thinking of how my friend described it, something like "A Canadian comic book movie is the best video game movie, somehow." :p
-
@scribus If you haven't seen it I highly recommend it, it's a really charming and well crafted film
-
@northernnarwhal Oh, no, I've seen it repeatedly, a great film. So much fun.
-
@scribus Good lad. Edgar Wright is one my favourite modern directors.

@northernnarwhal The best film based on a game is Wreck It Ralph

@thelastgherkin Ohh, I do not think anyone could beat that.

@critialcloudkicker I don't think anyone could.......... wreck it

@thelastgherkin Dunno, there is a certain bald guy who might just assassinate it... But I have yet to see that movie. If it wasn't a hoax

@thelastgherkin I guess this technically counts. I'll give it to you.
-
@northernnarwhal Tron should've been in Wreck It Ralph.
-
@scribus I'd dig that
-
-
@northernnarwhal Good, because my next answer was The Wizard.
