I pride myself on being tolerant and even defensive of religion (please hold your applause) but doing prayer for the first time in seven years felt awfully Orwellian
-
@tiffany But what about GNU/Faith?
-
@takegrapeakenji seems too radical for my liking
-
@tiffany Jesus was a huge fan of George Orwell's work.
-
@tiffany we know where you live
-
@mrmattimation How very ungood of him
-
@narwhal big borther pls
-
@tiffany He was an ironic fan. He read 1984 and was like "Pfft. Omnipresent forces. That's silly."

@mrmattimation Garfield 2 is Animal Farm but good
-
@tiffany I didn't realise until years later how weird it was that primary schools make you pray for six years of your life.
-
@thelastgherkin Yeah I've grown to really dislike it; luckily (for lack of a better term) my primary school had literally no kids who were Muslim or otherwise actively not Christian. However the school I'm at now is like at least 30% Muslim students and even though when you enlist there they ask you your faith and whatnot, we're still made to participate and bask in this staunch Christian environment. apple's cherryed yo
-
@tiffany My primary school was about 40% Islamic, and everyone had to say a prayer in assembly with the exception of the fringe group of Jehova's Witnesses.
-
@thelastgherkin I'm surprised yours was so diverse but then again I suppose the non-Christians had to go somewhere
-
@tiffany @thelastgherkin Whoa, wait, you guys pray in schools? This is news to me. Is that, like, a law?
-
@mrmattimation I wouldn't be surprised, at least for primary schools (ages 5ish-11)
-
@mrmattimation We did in the late 90s/early 00s. I do not believe my old school pray now. I reckon it has been widespread by the ways of traditional headmasters.
-
@thelastgherkin That is so weird. Over here if a teacher made their kids recite a prayer they're probably be fired.
-
@mrmattimation But on the other hand, I understand some schools over ther begin with saluting a flag and reciting an oath to America.
-
@thelastgherkin @mrmattimation It's exactly the same thing but the blind fanaticism is towards a different symbol.
-
@nerthos Blind fanaticism should be towards me
-
@thelastgherkin Hail Pickle
-
@thelastgherkin Contrary to popular belief, that's actually not required, we just kind of do it anyway because nobody's told us to not to yet. I don't recite the pledge anymore but that's more out of laziness than anything else.
-
@nerthos I can remember the very last time a teacher asked me to lead the class in the pledge of allegiance to the flag... I stood up, threw up a roman salute, said "hail satan", and sat back down. She damn near had an apoplectic fit.
RDN's Lucifer likes this. -
@colfax More should do as you did.

@nerthos I am, of course, the Bikini Queen of RDN
