32-bit Linux systems will stop working in 2038. Since system time is recorded as a 32-bit integer (the number of seconds since 1970-01-01) its limitation will extend only this long. - Thank God I'm running 64 bit...

@omni I'm going to be sad if anyone is still using 32-bit systems in 2038.

@thatonepony Yeah, I know. Even then, come on, 2038 is MORE than enough time to create a "bugfix" for such old systems that still aren't running 64 bit by then. I'm not saying the Y2k bug didn't cause any issues, but its effects were grossly overestimated.

@colfax The oldest thing I have lying around here is SUSe Linux 9.1, which is from 2004 (unless Windows XP is even older than that).

@thatonepony I do believe I recall a program that started saving calender entries wrongly when the year 2000 started because it only looked at the last 3 numbers, but most applications were unaffected, true.

@decibel I wish I still had it, I'd gut the case, toss the crt, and then stuff a flatpanel and a high end desktop system inside it.
