This is quite possibly the best Ubuntu slogan ever. http://ur1.ca/ap5wz

@fortecadenza Never heard of it, though now I am intrigued.

@zeldatra Ubuntu is a Linux distribution (so a Linux-based Operating System) which is completely free, works out of the box and supports practically all Linux software. You can install it next to Windows without damaging your Windows installation. Also, it's free, you can't really go wrong there, even if you end up not liking it.

@fortecadenza Except that the real slogan is "Your wish is our command.", which is stupid. Nice fake, though, I fell for it for a second.

@omni Yeah, sure. "I wish you guys would drop this Unity nonsense, as my desktop is not a tablet." :p

@insaneclownscribus I'm currently drawing a Ranbo and Inkie panel I know you'll like.

@thelastgherkin Oh really!? :D I shiver with antici. . . .pation!

@insaneclownscribus It probably won't be up until Tuesday.

@thelastgherkin For Ranbo and Inkie, I can wait.

@insaneclownscribus Haha, I remember the outrage of that. Unity ended up pretty fair, though, just like GNOME3 has. The only place where this tablet-like desktop interface didn't work out for me at all was Metro :x

@omni Yeah, it really isn't bad, it's just completely alien to how I use a computer. And that's fine, because there's always an alternative with Linuxes. (Linii? No....)
Sunday, 28-Oct-12 14:04:10 UTC from web-
@insaneclownscribus Yep, that's the thing I still love most about Linux. They can't force you to get used to a certain interface, because you can just download and install another one as you please. It's just awesome.

@omni You can install alternate UIs through certain programs on Windows, but if you screw up the installation like I did, you'll delete Explorer's uxtheme.dll file and your computer won't be able to draw anything.

@omni That was the real slogan at one point. They took it down shortly after putting it up, however.

@fortecadenza Looked it up, seems to be true. Of course they removed it quickly, but keeping it up shortly got them some extra news coverage, which is pretty smart :P

@omni Did you see the story about the FSF crashing a Win8 launch event?
Sunday, 28-Oct-12 14:04:41 UTC from web-
@insaneclownscribus No, I haven't, do you have a link?
Sunday, 28-Oct-12 14:05:17 UTC from web-
@omni Yeah, lemme try to find it....

@omni Seems @fortecadenza beat me to it, though it's a different article, so you may as well read both! XD http://fsf.org/blogs/community/gnus-trick-or-treat-at-windows-8-launch

@insaneclownscribus I really like the idea of giving out Linux DVDs at a Windows 8 launch event. It's brilliant.

@fortecadenza It reminded me of a time that a buddy and I raided a display for NetZero and handed the discs out right in front of a . . . (who the hell was it?) . . . an Earthlink booth at the mall. :p

@fortecadenza Yeah, we were just bored teenagers, though. No agenda other than wasting a Saturday night.

@widget It's a nice distro, the first I recommend along with Parabola. Until Debian joins the free distros list.

@widget That's a pro and con. Of course, they would be better off promoting something like Ubuntu to make it easier for people to switch as most people use non-free software as Skype, but I can see where they're coming from and don't want to have to tell people to switch twice. Then again, they do make people afraid of Linux if they can't run most of their applications on it, not even stuff like Skype.
