Does anyone know how to deal with a potentially-abusive father who's just punched his spouse in the face and is too drunk to see reason? Not to bring down the mood or anything.

@mastertdi Baseball bat to the knees.
-
@mastertdi Gun, and cops.
-
@mastertdi Maybe get the hell off the internet and phone the police?
-
@mastertdi Do you have access to a phone?
-
@colfax, we have no baseball bat. We are British after all.
-
@mastertdi If you're not 100% confident that you can take him, then take the spouse and leave. Come back later. Call police.
-
@mastertdi Cricket hammer.
-
@mastertdi Cricket . . . implement?
-
@nerthos Is it actually called a hammer?
-
@scribus I don't know, but it looks like a hammer.
-
@ everyone saying police, I know it seems like the obvious thing but if he flips out before they actually show up then I'm not sure how much of a good idea that is
-
@thelastgherkin It is a bat, then. Okay.
-
@mastertdi Do you have access to a phone?
-
@mastertdi It's better than him flipping out and they never show up.
-
@mastertdi That's why if you can't subdue him, you run, then get the police in on it. He can flip all he wants while there's nobody to hurt and the cops are on the way.
-
@nerthos Are you thinking croquet?
-
@redenchilada, yes, we do. @thelastgherkin, maybe, but I really really don't want to provoke him.
-
-
@scribus That's a mallet.
-
@mastertdi Hit him with the phone until he goes unconscious. No more, though, don't wanna hurt him. (I'm sorry, I'm no help with things like this)
-
@scribus, we don't have many places to go. But police will probably be the best bet, yeah.
-
@mastertdi You don't TELL him you phone the police.
-
@mastertdi Do you have a bow?
-
@nerthos I think you're thinking shuffleboard.
-
@redenchilada, me either. That's why I asked you guys.
-
@mastertdi You don't need a place to go, just a place not to be.
-
@mastertdi, we have no medeival weaponry.
-
@thelastgherkin, hmm, good call there.
-
@thelastgherkin I don't know, all those british sports are confusing. Here it's either football, basketball, tennis or polo.
-
@thelastgherkin Yeah, but a mallet is like a hammer in that they are funny in cartoons.
-
@mastertdi Then use a cricket bat...
-
@mastertdi A slingshot?
-
@scribus, yeah, but we still need to know what he's doing, so we can't really be anywhere outside the house.
-
-
@rotation We don't talk about him.
-
@mastertdi Seems to me if he's already punched someone in the face, you don't need to know what he's doing - you have enough with what he's done.
-
@mastertdi The best thing to do is going away so he doesn't notice and just call the police. If you want to solve the situation yourself, you may provoke him and that would be really dangerous. and by avoiding to let hi know you called the police, you prevent him from snapping.
-
@mastertdi See, you take the woman, get out of the house, barricade the door from the outside. The cops come, beat the crap out of him, and put him in jail.
-
@scribus, but if he leaves the house and we lose him then that won't make things any better
-
@mastertdi Cops will track him down.
-
@mastertdi Will a warrant for the arrest of a man accused of physical assault not stand for more than thirty minutes?
-
@scribus *Aggravated physical assault
-
Okay, so you all think police is best. I thought as much, but I'm still not totally sure. Part of me thinks that'll end badly for some reason. I'm more worried about keeping my mum safe from him currently.
-
@mastertdi See, in the time you wasted here, the police could already be there.
-
@scribus, aghh, I'm just not thinking right now. You're all right with the police and I'm just making things seem difficult.
-
@mastertdi Good luck.
-
@mastertdi Look, it boils down to this: Fight or flight. If you were a fighter, you'd be standing over a bloodied drunk, so you're reduced to flight. Now fly, you fool, and get someone qualified to fight for you!
-
@nerthos Or whatever the hell they call it in England.
-
@scribus, well I am no fighter, so flight it is, I guess.
-
@thelastgherkin Your laws are funny.
-
@nerthos I'll batter you. Like a roe.
-
@thelastgherkin So much British.
-
@nerthos I like British~
-
@hakupony I'm indifferent to it.
-
@nerthos You're going to get lamped.
-
@thelastgherkin Bring it on, funny British guy.
-
@nerthos If by 'so much', you mean 'not enough'.
-
@rotation That's because you're used to it.
