  1. When I talk to people in this fandom it always makes me kind of sad that people think it's impossible to have an Equestria-like society in this world, like we'd need some kind of magic based intervention to start being nice to eachother. It's really not that difficult to just do a couple of nice things a day for other people. I think if everyone in the fandom made a point of voluntarily doing one nice thing per day, the world would, if there are as many of us as people seem to think there are, become a generally more pleasant place.

    3. @ceruleanspark I cite Thomas Hobbes: "Homo homini lupus"

      1. @broniebrown All the more reason to make a special effort to rise above it.

        1. @ceruleanspark I'm a bit more on the pessimistic point of view. As long as humanity feels greed and jealousy it won't change.

          1. @broniebrown I'm not talking about some kind of sea change conversion from adversarial group dynamics to global benevolence, I'm talking about holding the door for people, wishing people well, or helping out someone who looks like they need a boost.

    4. @ceruleanspark That's right along with what I keep thinking. Not just with pony fans, but people in general. It really isn't so hard to be nice, it just went out of style for some reason. #

      1. @scribus It's come up a lot in my study of buddhism too. People make themselves miserable by making others miserable.

      2. @scribus @ceruleanspark # Heck I have met people who will ruin friendships out of spite, and pretty content with themselves. My friend gets all kiwiy when I spend time holding the door open for people. I even get dirty looks like I am want something in return for opening the door.

        1. @noirbatch @ceruleanspark I've had a number of late-night drunken conversations with a good, but pessimistic, friend of mine about things like this. I keep saying that if people really were as vile, self-centered, and destructive as he tends to believe (or at least act like he does) then we never would have made it out of the caves. I also tend to get into the rise of what I think of as homo empathetic (which is probably a godawful excuse for Latin, but it gets the point across).

          1. @scribus @ceruleanspark All very true. Jeez it is 6 AM.... Well on my point, I just do my part to give, and hope someone pays it forward. Not just because they feel like they have to, but a genuine feeling that they want to. I like making people feel accepted n' stuff, hopefully that will be a trend one day. Call me an optimist.

          2. @scribus @noirbatch Yeah, that's what I meant. To do good almost regardless of other people. When I think about events which have had postitive effect on my current self, they're uniformly because someone, somewhere, decided to do the right thing, instead of only looking out for themselves.

            1. @ceruleanspark Yeah, and it only takes one person.

    5. @ceruleanspark I agree. But first you have to remove people. Dem all up in my crib!

    6. @ceruleanspark It's possible to make the world a nicer place with a low amount of effort per individual. The main problem is kickstarting it. You can't force the general population to be nicer without being mean to them.
